This is the official discussion thread for Stanford Class of 2029 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Question: S25 wants to do applied mathematics at Stanford, but Common app just lists Mathematics as a major but not Applied Math. I understand Applied Math is part of Math and Stats major at Stanford, but I wasn’t sure if it’s considered a separate major and why common app isn’t listing it for Stanford… Thanks in advance.
Has anyone received Stanford RD interviews? I’m wondering if the RD interviews have started…
If international, not yet
Domestic a few have
I have heard the continue upto start of march ( like first 4 5 days)
My son just received an invite today.
What state are u in?
I just got today. I’m international
Midwest
Does anyone know how many applicants are from California and what the California acceptance rate is roughly?
On 1/21 my son received an email for interview. The interview is scheduled for next week. Honestly it doesn’t mean anything as my daughter for Fall 23 also had an interview with Stanford and she said so did everyone else at her high school who applied. We live 10 miles away from Stanford and getting an interview is not an indication of how strong an applicant is, but more on the availability of interviewers in your area. Stanford is a reach for my son so he is not reading too much into his chances based on getting an interview and he is super chill about it. He is seeing this as an opportunity to get more experience with interviews in general.
As a point of reference, Stanford just released their admissions data for last year (high school class graduating in 2024, anticipated to graduate from college in 2028) through the common data set. Source is stanford_cds_2024_2025.pdf - Google Drive . Acceptance rate was even lower than Harvard’s last year. Stanford admitted 2067 out of 57,326 applicants for a 3.605% acceptance rate. I believe this represents a record high in both number of applications and a record low for acceptance percentage for Stanford. Harvard admitted 1970 out of 54,008 applicants for a 3.648% acceptance rate. Please note, some earlier sources indicate that Harvard had a 3.59% acceptance rate, but the final official numbers from Harvard indicate the 3.648%. Source is: Admissions Statistics | Harvard. In any event, good luck to everyone. We are going through an unbelievably difficult and competitive admissions environment these days, perhaps the most competitive it will ever be.
Have you got the interview? Still no for me. I am in North CA, but not within bay area or close to Stanford.
daughter just had an interview. i
daughter is a sophmore at stanford, many of her friends did not have interviews and are current students.
No interview yet. Hmmm?
My son, International student, has been contacted by an alumna to schedule a video call. Is It something positive, or do they do it solely on availability basis also for International? Thanks
don’t know but I (intl) haven’t gotten one, good luck with the call
I’m in Kansas…should I be worried about getting an interview?
