Y’all did great. A rejection is a NOT a reflection of you. There are 100s of thousands of highly qualified applicants and the colleges have only so many spots. It all finally comes down to the class each college is trying to form. If you’re part of the class they visualized for this year, then you’re in. I know it’s easy to say “don’t worry” as I know how hard y’all have worked, but just know that your efforts will not go for a waste. Wherever you end up, y’all will end up doing amazing things!!! All the very best and I hope y’all get what you want. Sending positive vibes!

Were you accepted to anywhere else? Did you have any safeties? You very clearly have the determination and mindset (speaking to the UN and winning ISEF) to do great things anywhere where you go to.

I was rejected by UChicago (ED1), CMU SCS, and also had to remove half of my planned applications (incl. MIT (my dream school), Caltech, Cornell) due to financial constraints + bad luck. I was mostly preparing to go to URochester or maybe UMD (if some financial miracle occurred). But I was just accepted to Michigan’s RC while expecting a complete rejection, and I never spoke at the UN.

You should have gotten somewhere great, or at least somewhere where you could be great (which includes many more schools that HYPSM, really most of the T100) - if you didn’t (at all), then the system of holistic admissions failed you, and you should try to immediately either do a gap year or apply to a guaranteed admissions school (most should give you a full-ride or even pay you to go) if you don’t want a gap year.

I understand being disappointed about not getting into Ivies but Cal and UCLA are incredible – disappointment and excitement shouldn’t have to be mutually exclusive :downcast_face_with_sweat:
