Stanford VS UChicago VS Duke VS Upenn VS Grinnell College

Good afternoon everyone
I have been accepted to a lot of places with full financial packages. Now that I need to make a final decision, i’m seeking some advice since that decision will impact my life forever.
I got in 10 universities and I’m going to list the most important:
Stanford University (Majors: Energy Resources Engineering + Math)
UChicago (Major: Physics and maybe something else)
Duke University (Karsh Scholarship winner/ Majors: Engineering: something between mechanical and electrical)
Upenn (Engineering)
Grinnell College: Undecided.

The best financial offer is from Uchicago which is going to be totally free/ Penn all expenses minus $1200/ Stanford: 65k/69k just like Duke and Grinnell (I might appeal :stuck_out_tongue: )
The question is: Where to go? :-? :-? :-?

Thank you for your help

Wow, first of all congrats!

Second, wouldn’t Duke be free since you got the Karsh Scholarship? Assuming all the other prices you listed are correct, pick between Duke, UChicago and UPenn. Stanford and Grinnell aren’t worth 65k/year when you have equally good options for so much less (and that’s coming from someone who loves Stanford). If you can’t swing the $1200 gap from UPenn, don’t worry about it, go with either UChicago or Duke. Pick the school you feel will be the best fit, as UChicago, Duke and UPenn all have very different cultures.

@butterfreesnd I’m sorry but you did not get it  Grinnell and Stanford offered me 65k. I still have to pay around 4k

Ah, much harder decision then. I had a feeling I was misunderstanding you - it seemed weird that UChicago would give you a full ride and then you would be full pay at Stanford and Grinell. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you visited any of them?

This seems like a real easy decision- UChicago. Spending any extra money for what? You won’t get a better education

Stanford!
There is NO better college these days for anyone really interested in Engineering!
Especially energy resources engineering! Going anywhere else would be a mistake. There are hundreds of local companies-Google’s Nest , Sun power- the list goes on and on- dying for engineers out of Stanford.
Grab this fabulous opportunity that has been offered to you and congrats!

Stanford seems like the obvious choice given your penchant for Engineering.

Wow this is a really tough decision to make. All the schools are fantastic and you have received great FA. Definitely roll with either UChicago, Duke, or Penn. They’re completely different schools in terms of campus and location so you need to visit and see which place you like best, if you haven’t already. What school do you like out of them all? List the pros and cons.

Agreed. I’m extremely surprised to see people recommending the others.

I agree that Stanford is a frontrunner in my book for anyone with an interest in engineering (especially in the energy area!). I do think it’s worth $4k/year. If you loved one of the others a lot more, then you certainly can’t go wrong, but absent that kind of preference…Stanford.

This is how I rank these universities:

  1. Stanford and UChicago
    2)Duke
    3)Upenn
    4)Grinnell
    5)The others :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason why I started this thread is that I’m afraid to turn down 4 awesome univerisities. I don’t want to regret declining amazing offers :frowning:

@butterfreesnd I couldn’t visit any of them because I’m an international students

You are going to have to turn down some awesome universities. You have been admitted to a handful of elite colleges and universities, and you can only attend one of them. By definition, you must decline all but one. But considering your academic interests, Stanford is your best option by a wide margin, both overall, and given your academic interests. Chicago forces you to change your academic orientation altogether. Duke and Penn are not as good as Stanford in Engineering, If Stanford were much more expensive to attend, or if your intended major were Economics or Business, I could perhaps understand the conflict and confusion, but considering your academic interests and your cost of attendance, I honestly don’t understand why this is even a discussion!

@AKAKHALEDBEST is there any way you can visit them now? I know you don’t have that much time but fit is an important aspect. You might get to Stanford or Duke or anywhere and hate it and not be able to turn back.

pick Stanford and then dont look back!
You wont regret it!
Congrats on great choices.

Stanford

Oh my god, Stanford for sure.

To pile another one on - Stanford! Beautiful weather, amazing programs, wonderful architecture, happy students, incredible opportunities, and cheap tuition for you! You can’t go wrong.
