@cheddarthedog, I don’t believe so. They estimate $2200 food allowance + $350 technology allowance if living at home compared to $5937-5600 if living on campus so your financial aid will probably be reduced by $3000/quarter.
So that sucks, i guess no money benefit if going to campus vs remote
I also got in! Would love it if you guys would message me so I can connect with you all!
My son also got it this afternoon! Unbelievable … He is still hesitating but I believe he will switch from another BIG IVY to STANFORD
Congrats to the many that were admitted in August. Wonder if there will be a ripple effect at schools that these students will withdraw from such that those with open waitlists will go after students next week. So close to the start of the new semester.
I received an email! Unfortunately I had just gotten a new phone this morning so they may have tried to contact me and it just didn’t go through?
@cheddarthedog. I haven’t talk to financial aid but I am “assuming” that if the scholarship covers room and board then it will change and you will not get the $17K. For example, parents with adjusted income below $65k, Stanford will pay for tuition/room/board for the student. If you decide to stay home, Stanford is not going to give you $17K (room/board portion). However, if your parents adjusted income is between $65k-$150k then Stanford is supposed to pay your tuition. In this case, your financial aid will not be affected. You best is to contact financial aid. Maybe someone here can better answer your question as there is still many unknowns.
This is off topic but Harvard is giving its students money if they choose to stay home. Per Harvard “Aided students who do not return to campus will receive a $5,000 remote room and board allowance in their financial aid award each semester to support studying at home.”
I think @Luvbadgers answered most of the questions posed after I signed off last night. We have not gotten our revised financial aid letters yet—coming soon I hear. A lot will depend if you are on campus or remote this fall. I am assuming you’d be on campus, and we just don’t know yet what the fees are going to look like for that. Usually the expected student contribution is $3500 from school year earnings and $1500 from summer earnings. Outside scholarships can be used to reduce the expected student contribution. All of that was excused for the remote Spring Quarter, and they sent her $2200 to cover food for the quarter. I should probably mention that min wage is $15.00 there, and my daughter’s jobs at Stanford all paid well above that, so with 8-10 hours a week work, you can easily hit the $3500.00. All fees but one were also removed from the bill (cannot remember which one) during the remote quarter. They also checked back to make sure she was still living at home for the remote quarter and offered to pay rent up to a certain amount if she needed to live somewhere other than home during the remote quarter. Also, Fall quarter bills usually go out on Aug 15, With payment due on Sept 15, though I expect that will move a bit to be before school starts on Sept 14. One heads up…your bill will show a health insurance fee. You can submit proof of your insurance you are already on to ask for that fee to be taken off—there is a deadline to do so and you have to do it yearly—don’t miss it.
I agree with @Luvbadgers — I can only tell you what has happened with my daughter’s experience, so I encourage you to reach out to the financial aid office for more complete information.
Thanks for your help. Are you saying that if a student receives an outside scholarship (maybe $1000 from the local Rotary or something like that) then it reduces the expected student contribution and not the financial aid?
Can you give me an idea of what kinds of fees were removed? I’m wondering approximately how much money will be added back on if they aren’t remote in the future. I don’t want to have sticker shock next year.
@lkg4answers. Per Stanford “ Another way to cover part of the Student Responsibility portion of your financial aid package is to obtain outside scholarships. Outside scholarships can be used to meet your Student Responsibility expectation dollar-for-dollar. If you are receiving Stanford scholarship and receive outside scholarships that total more than your Student Responsibility, your need-based scholarship eligibility will be reduced.” Hopefully this answer your first question.
I can’t recall exactly what fees were removed but I remember Stanford saying that too. Maybe someone can pinpoint us to it .
Yes, re: Rotary scholarship example—reduces expected student contribution., not overall financial aid.
All Fees on last year’s normal (non-COVID) bill for Fall quarter =
“dorm name” house dues $136.00, housing technology fee $74.00, UG student activity fee $144.00, campus health services fee (Vaden) $224.00
Congrats to all who got off the waitlist!! Seems very late in the summer but so exciting I’m sure to have gotten that news when you were least expecting it!
Does anyone know how we submit the reapproaching Stanford housing form? Or has anyone received any additional information aside from the enrollment confirmation?
Thank you for your reply @Outlander . Are students charged campus health services fees even if they have their own personal insurance?
@user_8367433 How soon after paying the deposit did you get a confirmation of enrollment? Was it a confirmation of paying the deposit or a confirmation that you are now enrolled.
@ganfam About 5-10 minutes after. The subject line of the email was “Stanford Enrollment Confirmation,” so confirmation that I am now enrolled.

Yes, everyone attending in person/living in campus housing pays that campus health services fee, even if you have private insurance. If you are remote learning only, it is waived. There will be a separate charge for health insurance, which you can have removed by taking some steps to show you have private insurance that the university deems sufficient.
congrats to all those who got good news yesterday! when do you need to decide by? hoping there may still be a chance for those of us who didn’t hear…will keep hoping.
Anyone admitted who was international?
