Stanley Cup playoffs 2012!

Go Devils! Am I the only person in the NYC area that is unhappy with media coverage - you would think the Devils are from hundreds of miles away. I listen to 1010wins and it’s all about the Rangers losing, not the Devils winning. Today’s NYTimes article is the same.

As I was walking into Penn Station earlier this week (the 7th Ave entrance most used by NJ Transit) they were handing out Rangers posters - I took one and told the person my son needed a dart board.

I don’t like the Rangers… I don’t even know why I don’t like the Rangers… but I don’t.

So I’m not sorry to see the Rangers go home.

I think I’m rooting for the Kings in the finals though.

All I can say is, “Ugh!” But I’ll add that in NY, the Rangers, Giants, and Knicks are the ones that count–with the other teams being afterthoughts. Even though the Rangers have won only one Cup since 1940, nobody cared about the Devils or Islanders when they had dynasties. That’s just–to quote Billy Joel–the New York state of mind. (In baseball, there’s an exception. Maybe it’s because I’m a Mets fan but they have ruled at times, with the Yanks being Yanks who?-- although that hasn’t been true for a while. One other exception, the Jets in 1969, and Joe Namath.)

Now, it’s Go Kings! for me. Jonathan Quick went to college, UMASS, where one of my kids attends, and my kids’ high school history teacher coached Quick as a child. We may even get to see Lord Stanley’s Cup if Quick gets to bring it home.

But basically it will be all baseball all the time until the NFL begins.

NJ2011–I’ve been noticing the same thing! When the Mets and Yankees played in the WS, both teams were given their due, same with Giants Jets games. The Devils are a NY metropolitan area team, and our radio stations are FAN and ESPN (FAN often plays Devils games.) So you’d think they’d get a little notice. Thankfully, I can read the Star-Ledger and get some actual coverage.

Also, it’s fun having Doc Emrick doing the playoffs–it’s like he’s still with the Devils!

Latichever–I would have rooted for the Rangers if they won, since we’ve got Ranger fan family. But as long as you’re a Mets fan, you’re alright with me!

I was happy that the Devils won but felt sorry for Lundqvist. He’s an amazing goalie. What a pain to have to wait til Wednesday for Game 1!

He is really good. He’ll give Marty a run for his money in the record books, eventually.

These Kings seem unstoppable, and the Devils are just not playing very well. Brodeur can’t do it alone.

Sigh. Yeah. (I’m going to guess Kovy’s back problem is recurring (his speed seems to be gone) but overall–yeah–tight, not playing their best game, and if we get to a game five, I’ll be surprised.

But Marty’s been pretty spectacular–like you say, he can’t do it alone. They have to score.

very impressive playoff run for Marty… proved he still had some left in the tank. Would have been amazing (assuming NJ doesn’t win 4 straight) to win Stanley Cups so many years apart (over 15 since his first one, I believe).

also, a tip of the hat to #5 in Detroit. Pure class and talent. Nice to see him go out still playing at a high level at such an age.

Oh, Devils. Way to spoil the party in L.A.! Now Phil Pritchard has to pack up the Cup and lug it to NJ. :)

Hey, it’s been here before! :)

Yes, garland! You never know what will happen.

No no no no!!! The Kings must win the cup!!!

Whoa, Devils! I’m getting too old for all this excitement. :)

!!! Well, apparently Marty’s not! :)

He’s amazing, isn’t he, garland?!

p.s. I’m a LOT older than Marty!

Oh, me too.

Everyone ready? Can’t even imagine what this game will turn out to be…

Watching. Happy but still nervous

:)  :)
