Stanley Cup playoffs 2013!

Thanks. I can only get NBC and CNBC of the NBC family. It will conflict with the MC/Chelsea game though.

Yeah, well, futbol is the right season right now, glowworm! Goal! Goal! Goal!

Who tends to be your favorite team?

We go Real Madrid in our house because daughter was a Keeeper.

The Penguins easily disposed of the Sens last night. I haven’t seen the Pens look this strong in a long time, and they were a scoring powerhouse in this series against one of the league’s best defensive teams.

Will the Bruins and Wings win their fourth games tonight?

alwaysamom, The experts on ESPN think this will be the Hawks last game.

poetgrl, H born and raised in Madrid, but, in an extremely rare situation, was a season ticket holder for both RM and Atl

I won’t be surprised if the Hawks pull it off at home tonight. I’m predicting a game 6. Then again, as a loyal Red Wings fan, I didn’t think we’d get this far against the Hawks. The Wings are not totally “gelled” as a team. This really is a rebuilding year for them and I think they’d have done much, much better if they’d had a whole season to learn to work together as a team. If Howard had not been SO hot as a goalie through these playoffs, we’d be seeing very different results.

Lergnom notes that we’ve been more scrappy… I think that is what is making Wings fans nervous, frankly. The Wings used to have finesse and elegance and skill in passing and the veterans just KNEW where the other guys were at all times. They could pass the puck around and leave us wondering how they managed to always get it to the right guy. That finesse is missing and is replaced with this scrappiness that makes us nervous, as fans.

It does feel like they’re getting through “by the skin of their teeth” every single game. They seem to pour it on when they need to and get the job done, but it isn’t in a way that imbibes confidence. Most of us, while we love them and are loyal, really didn’t think they’d stay ahead of the Hawks.

^ Well, we’ll know in less than a week. I know the Wings won three straight, but it will still be very hard to overcome a 1-3 deficit.

I do hope an O6 team wins the Cup, though.

I agree. If it can’t be the Hawks, I want it to be one of the other five.

I’m curious, poetgrl and gloworm. Why the wish for an original 6 team? I’ve never understood that.

Well for me it’s just that it’s been such a long time that I’ve seen a game in person, I’ve never seen the Hawks play a team other than one of the 6.

alwaysamom, it’s not really a big deal, but it’s just, I’ve grown up a Hawks fan my whole life. Hockey and soccer are my favorite sports.

So, if the Hawks lose, which they do, which most teams do, eventually, the preference for an 06 just gives me an automatic team to root for in other games. It makes the season longer.

I mean, it’s not like I’m just going to like the best team of the year. ;)

(I’m sure it’s silly, but it’s all kind of silly if you think about it ‘too’ hard. No?)

At the end of the summer, I’m moving to a city that has an expansion team, a really, really recent expansion team. It will be a strange new world.

Oh, I didn’t mean to make it a big deal. I was just honestly curious because I hear this from fans occasionally and wondered why someone would feel that way. I have been attending hockey games since the early 60s, long before the first NHL expansion hit Philly, which was my neck of the woods. Cheering for a team is a funny phenomenon. My H grew up in Montreal so is a lifelong Habs fan, even though he hasn’t lived there in 40+ years. I grew up at Flyers’ games and was one who spent every waking minute outside school, in arenas. Two current NHL general managers were in my teenaged circle of friends. I’ve lived in Toronto so long that I’m a fan, often disappointed, but still a fan.

Not sure if you’re referring to yourself with the Hawks, or to me about liking the best team of the year. I do like the Pens, but mainly because the GM is one of the above-mentioned old friends and the son of good friends is on the team. Plus, what fan can honestly deny enjoying watching such talent? :)

You are absolutely right that it is all kind of silly if you think about it too hard. I was thinking exactly that watching the game last night. Men with sticks slapping a little hunk of frozen rubber around, on ice!

Best of luck on your move. I remember seeing your thread about it a few months ago. Did you state what city you’d chosen? No worries if you’d prefer not to post it here. Depending where you’re going, you’ll likely be able to get tickets to the games much cheaper than in Chicago!

And, gloworm, 46 years without going to a game? That’s a long time!

You aren’t thinking of switching, are you?

That would violate Rule 19 of the Rules of Fandom:

[ESPN.com: Page 2 : Rules for being a true fan](ESPN.com: Page 2 : Rules for being a true fan)

hah! No, I can’t imagine I actually “could” switch.

But, I will still go to the hockey games, and, over the course of time I am positive this will become my second favorite team, pushing me out of the 06 group, is all. I mean, here, for most of my life, home games were not televised. We all trudged down to the stadium for mostly all home games. Even when we couldn’t afford it, we did this.

Hockey is just a part of my life I won’t give up.

But, hockey is so new to the place I am moving that they aren’t likely to be annoyed when we are hawks fans, either. There aren’t likely to be any rabid fans. Nobody there grew up on the team or anything. I’m not even sure they have any rivalries, yet.

Why isn’t there chatter about the Kings? We are awesome…inspiring and “our” team.

I admit that when Mr. Ellebud and I were dating I tried to be interested in hockey. We have been married over 30 years. I never was a fan…until recently. Now, by familial honor I watch…and am learning bits and pieces.

And now…in closing…beat San Jose!

The Bruins looked good, rebounding against the Rangers.

The Penguins have been insane the last few games. I’m hoping it’s more a case of Ottawa completely coming unhinged, but I’m afraid the Bruins are going to meet their match in the next round.

That period really hurt.

alwaysamom,
Not quite 46, but I have never seen, in person, any game that wasn’t an O6 game.

I have not seen a hockey game live since 1977, the year I married.

One period left. I hope they hang on.

I have a lot of words about this game. None of them pleasant :p

I’m not sure I can watch any more tonight. We can have quite a party after Game 6 at home though.

Well, sorry guys, but I have to say that I’m pleased. :)
