Stanley Cup Playoffs 2018

Hey, why don’t we have a Stanley Cup thread?

I’m glad to see there is a game 7. Go Leafs!

My Sharks are just waiting around, waiting around.

At the beginning of the season, I wouldn’t have been surprised to hear that at the end of the first round of the playoffs, the Golden Knights hadn’t lost a playoff game. But I expected they wouldn’t have won any playoff games either. What an amazing success story, which I hope to see come to an end this round.

As a Sharks fan, I am contractually obligated to hate Southern California teams. It’s one of the rules. We Bay Area fans believe that zero playoff victories is the correct number for Socal teams, and an excellent achievement that should be replicated in future years.

Haha, I guess the answer to your question is, because I hadn’t started one! Glad to see that you stepped up @“Cardinal Fang” . You and I, and a few others, seem to be the stalwarts here when it comes to hockey. I was at the Leafs game last night and it was great fun. We have a very young team that has had great success this season. It’s amazing the difference in two short years, from 32nd in the league to 6th in the league this season. Getting Mike Babcock and cleaning house almost entirely from top to bottom has resulted in a much faster turnaround than even he expected. These young kids, a few of whom look about 13!, are such fun to watch.

Facing a strong Boston team was daunting but the Leafs have held their own and forced the only game 7 in the first round of playoffs. Last night’s game was such a joy that it almost doesn’t matter what happens tomorrow night. Almost.

I’m so happy for the success of the Golden Knights. We have met Marc Andre Fleury many times through the years in Pittsburgh when visiting a friend’s son who plays for the Pens. He is truly one of the nicest young men I’ve ever met. He always has a smile on his face, he’s a wonderful teammate, and a great goalie. He’s having a fun experience with a new franchise.

Good luck to the Sharks! I think that should be a good series. I think all of the next round should be good, honestly. I was happy to see the Pens beat the Flyers, who were my childhood team. I went to all their games from expansion year until I went away to college. My parents were friends with many of the men who started the team. I grew up with two friends who are now GMs in the NHL. But I can’t cheer for them these days. I don’t think the current management or coaching staff is competent and after seeing what so many idiot fans did in that last game, it makes me ashamed for Philadelphia fans.

Love this time of year!

I’m hoping Patrick Marleau has a monster game for your Leafs, alwaysamom. He has three playoff hat tricks-- why not make it four?

That would be lovely, CF! He has had a great year here. He is much-loved by Toronto fans and he’s been a wonderful mentor to the young kids.

Caps fan hoping we can get past the Pens this year.

I’m with you, @Singersmom07. Live in Philly, but born and raised in DC…go Caps!

I’m originally from Pittsburgh and I’ll be rooting for the Penguins. I also like the Golden Knights , with 2 former Penguins on the team-Marc Andre Fleury and James Neal.

Happy Caps fan here! There is some maturity and toughness now that has been lacking. They’ve figured out they’ll have to fight for this.

S2 is in an expat in Eastern Europe now and last night’s Caps-CBJ game started at 2:30 am for him. He has been watching every game. It’s a good thing he doesn’t have to be at work early in the am!

Can I just say I think the Vegas Knights is a class act from top to bottom? They have hit every note this year, through tragedy and success. Still miss Schmidty, though!

It looks like Seattle might get an NHL team… we shall see. For now, go Sharks!

Pens fan here so of course I would love to see a Pens vs Golden Knights final.

I gotta agree. They get my vote for best debut team in any major sport. Of course, they were aided by changes in the expansion draft process, but still.

Flyers people at our house, still dying from embarassment and the horror of poor undiscplined incoherent play…yeesh. But we are now rooting for Ovechkin and the Caps! Quietly, though, so as not to curse you…

WaPo had a hilarious column today about the Caps and the second round curse. Good luck!

Devils fans here. Well, that was quick. We were out of it before the Cup thread even started.

Well, a tough night for our Leafs, but a fun season this year with only positives going forward with all these young kids. An addition of a good defenseman would be nice over the summer.

Now, who to cheer for in the next round. Hmmm. Good luck to all of you whose teams are still alive!

Bruins still alive. Yay!!

Round 2 is off to an interesting start. Pittsburgh does their usual scary comeback in the third to beat the Caps 3-2 in their first game.

Vegas smashes San Jose 7-0.

Last night’s game was amazing. The two best teams in the league during the regular season put on a show for their fans. Winnipeg takes it 4-1 over Nashville and Hellebuyck should have had all three stars of the game, with 47 saves. Can’t wait to see the next one! I hope they find someone better to sing the anthem. With all the talent in Nashville, they should be able to hire someone good. Last night’s duo was painful.

Today has Boston at Tampa Bay at 3. San Jose tries to redeem themselves in Vegas at 8.

Game 2! Nail biter! Sharks live on! Fingers crossed, @“Cardinal Fang”

When the Knights “scored” that OT goal, my son the goalie was all over it like a cheap suit. “Either that was goalie interference or Jones completely screwed,” he said. After he saw the first replay he couldn’t even understand why they were taking so long overturning it, and he couldn’t restrain his contempt for the national announcers.

“What was Marchesault supposed to do?” said the announcers.

“Skate somewhere on the ice where Jones wasn’t. It’s simple,” snapped this member of the Goalies Union.

During the first OT intermission my son started to make brownies. He was just putting them in the pan when the goal was scored. I’d better buy some more chocolate for future overtimes; can’t tamper with what works.

Good competition so far, for the most part, in round 2. All tied 1-1 after two games, until Vegas took the lead in their series against the Sharks last night. Happy to see Tampa Bay beat the Bruins last night. TB’s top line has to step it up.

The Pens and the Caps, and the Predators and the Jets go at it again tonight.
