Stanley Cup Playoffs 2018

The New York Times says that oddsmakers and the casinos are positively aghast at the possibility of the Las Vegas Golden Knights winning the Stanley Cup because the payout could be in the seven-figures. Aint America grand?

I’m not ready to give up on the Penguins yet, but if they can’t do it , I’ll definitely be rooting for the Golden Knights with Fleury and James Neal.

Predators!!! Won Kings trophy, represent Music City, great fans that toss catfish, etc. Denver Avalanch RIP have the prettiest uniforms.

Happy Caps fan here! They are playing like they really want it this go-round.

Did something happen last night? Someone was trending for a rough hit but now I can’t seem to find anything about it.

I don’t remember what game it was.

Caps-Penguins. Tom Wilson collided with Zach Austin-Reese amd Austin-Reese wound up with a concussion and broken jaw. Some of the footage I’ve seen shows clear shoulder-to-shoulder initial contact, but Wilson is going before Player Safety today. He was not penalized at the time of the collision; however, he has acquired a rep for being very hard-hitting, so he will likely get a one-game suspension.

Eek. I just watched the video. A hell of a shoulder hit when the jaw and head get broken.

Looks like it’ll come down to when his feet left the ice.

It was Tom Wilson, @romanigypsyeyes , on the Caps. Last night, for the second game in a row, he made a head hit on one of the Penguins. Zach Aston-Reese has a concussion and a broken jaw. Wilson left his feet and his momentum carried him right over the boards and onto the Caps bench. He will now have a hearing with the league. The guy is a jerk, laughing as Aston-reese lay on the ice injured and bleeding.

The Preds collapsed. Geez, leading 3-0 then losing 7-4? Not good.

He is my neighbor’s son and my kids’ friend. I was sick when I saw that video.

Yeah, I thought Wilson laughing was pretty jerky. Sorry I got Aston-Reese’s name wrong above. I couldn’t tell if the collision took them both off their feet or if Wilson launched. Either way, there have been three controversial collisions during the playoffs (inc. one vs. Columbus), so I think the writing is on the wall.

Coverage last night said Wilson is 4" taller than Aston-Reese, which can also affect the angle of contact.

@zoosermom I’m so sorry. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

When things like this happen, the offending player should be out as long as the affected player. This wasn’t a freak accident. It was an intentional, dirty hit IMO.

Wilson is a goon. He has been since junior hockey. He has led all NHL players in penalty minutes in regular season games since he got to the NHL and has been fined and suspended several times. You can see in the video that he was lining Aston-Reese up as he headed down the ice. The head hit was clearly intentional and all this shoulder to shoulder nonsense being claimed by some in the Caps front office is ridiculous. A shoulder to shoulder hit doesn’t cause a concussion and a fractured jaw that is going to require surgery. Parros better do the right thing here.

Three game suspension for Wilson.

Good @alwaysamom Wilson already knocked Dumoulin out of game 2 and now this. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2018/05/02/tom-wilson-nhl-playoffs-Capitals-penguins-hit/572244002/

I’ve been a Capital fan since the day they entered the league, and we had season tickets in my youth for all of their first, terrible seasons. All these years later, I’m still waiting for them to win a single Stanley Cup final game (they were swept in their only finals appearance). I generally can’t watch the games, as it’s just too stressful (and usually painful) to bear. Unfortunately no game or series lead is safe in their hands - so I’ll try not to get too invested until/if they get past Pittsburgh.

Go Sharks !!! Current score 3 to 0 in game 4 !!!

@svcamom, I was hoping you didn’t jinx the Sharks by posting during the game, but clearly it worked! Good job! Go Sharks!

My picks for moving to the next round:
Pittsburgh
Las Vegas
Nashville
Tampa Bay

Happy to see Tampa Bay go up 3-1 over the Bruins. Winning two games in Boston is impressive. And especially gratifying when that fool Marchand continues to lick his opponents. Literally.

Didn’t see the Vegas-Sharks game due to a bad windstorm here and loss of cable but the Golden Knights are now up 3-2 and will look to end the series in San Jose tomorrow.

The other two series go tonight in DC and Nashville. Who will get to 3-2?!

So will the Penguins take this series in 7 and add another chapter to the Capitals playoff legacy? Or will the Caps come through in Pittsburgh tomorrow or DC a couple days later? I can only imagine the tension for the home team if it does go to 7 games.
