Where should I start?

The Original Series from the late sixties.

SPOILER ALERT

You can’t just escape from a black hole by jettisoning a bunch of crap and hoping for the best. Once you’re within the black hole’s Schwartzchild radius, it is quite simply impossible to escape its gravitational field. I was disappointed by this misrepresentation of our modern scientific understanding.

END SPOILER

Other than that, though, it was an awesome movie. [:

The original series is a bit old and tacky. I’d go with TNG.

^Respectfully disagree. The Original Series is the way to go. The special effects certainly aren’t as good as TNG (although pretty darn good for the 1960s), but the story plots can’t be beat. CBS has put most of the episodes on YouTube where you can watch them (with just a few commercials) for free. Highly recommended episodes include The Menagerie, Arena, Space Seed, The City on the Edge of Forever, The Doomsday Machine, The Trouble With Tribbles, A Piece of the Action, The Enterprise Incident, Spectre of the Gun, The Tholian Web, Requiem for Methuselah (my personal favorite) and many more. Enjoy.

^ So the series is episodic rather than serial?

The black hole situation isn’t the only ‘scientific’ error that occurred in the film. If you think it was…you got problems. But you’re not watching Star Trek for the scientific accuracy, you’re watching it as an entertaining sci-fi flick! I really liked the movie, and this is coming from someone who never really enjoyed any other Trek movie or series.

it’s called science fiction for a reason

I’d go with Star Trek DS9. Unlike the other series, it has a very cool overarching plot.

Deep Space 9 was legit.

Haha, relax, my rant was pretty tongue-in-cheek, I thought. :P

Deep Space 9 is my favorite. Of course, it gets flak from die-hard Trekkies because it doesn’t portray the Federation as a perfect utopia. But that’s why I really enjoy it. The crews of the other series are too… perfect.

just watched the movie yesterday. AMAZING! I think I may start watching the series …
