Star Wars movie -- The Force Awakens

Are any of you planning on seeing the new Star Wars movie, and when? We figure it will be a couple of weeks before we see it. I am looking forward to seeing it. This is definitely one to see in the theater.

We are seeing it on December 25th in the morning for $5 in reclining Dreamlounger seating when all the kids are in town.

My DH and 16-year-old D are waiting now for the 10:30 showing. I’m not happy that she’s out until 1:30 or so on a school night, but they were so excited I couldn’t say no. Hopefully I can get her moving at 6:30 tomorrow morning for school!

I am sitting here with my H and kids waiting for a 7pm showing to start. Woo hoo!

I will be going during the Christmas break with kids and their partners, because we always go to a movie, and Hobbit is over (thank goodness)

We are going to a late afternoon matinee on Sunday the 20th. I bought the tickets on the first day (after they got fandango up and running again). Out local theater remodeled with big recliner chairs that are reservable on fandango so no need to wait in line to pick a good seat either! We are watching Empire Strikes Back right now. Both kids are just home.

Our new local theater that has all leather reclining chairs has at least one theater with the seats that vibrate. That theater in particular is sold out for a week out, although I’m sure they’re showing it in other theaters that don’t have the additional feature to the seats.

My inside source tells me the next one will be R-rated. It’s called “Star Wars: Episode VIII- Chewie Gets a Brazilian.”

Maybe I’ll see it, maybe I won’t. There’s never been a movie in my life where I cared about seeing it on opening night! But if other people enjoy it, good for them.

So much promotion, though - tonight!'s BIg Bang Theory was Star Wars themed and lots of the commercials were too. Campbell’s Star Wars soups? Really?

I’m such a geek. I’ve got tix to see it tmrw (Sat). Can’t wait!

We bought tickets to see it on Christmas. Should we get in costume? I might be able to stick some cinnamon buns on my ears. Just saw the Hunger Games tonight, and the theatre next to us was playing Star Wars. It was sooooo loud.

Just got home from the movie…had a great evening with the family!

I’m usually not one to rush out to see a movie either…but my kids wanted to and I couldn’t resist an evening with the whole family together (first night home for winter break). Besides, I figure this is the best way of avoiding spoilers…see it first!

Have fun to all who will be seeing it in the next few weeks.

My D has been a Star Wars geek since 5th grade, and directly credits it for her love of science, and of physics in particular. Her interest in (and subsequent practice of) Kendo is primarily due to the role Goerge Lukus said it played in Star Wars light saber action, and secondarily due to her keen interest in all things Japanese. She bought her tickets to opening night more than a month ago, and every time we subsequently talked on the phone (daily), she would excitedly mention, “Xyz days left before the opening of The Force Awakens!” She veritably vibrated with excitement tonight just before leaving for the theater, and in calling us afterward, could only say, “Oh my God, oh my God!” Fortunately, she believes it lives up to all the hype (and heaven knows, there has been no shortage of that!), so we will all be trooping to the nearest multiplex to see it with her next weekend when she come home for Christmas. Predictions are that The Force Wakens will break all box office records, and become the highest grossing motion picture of all time. If the reactions of kid, and that of her older half brother are any indication, this may very well happen.

@poetsheart, I will be very interested in what your daughter’s review is. Is it the best of all time, or disappointing?
I’m hoping, at least, no Jar Jar Binks!!!

I have tickets for a showing while my son, daughter, and daughter’s boyfriend are visiting during Christmas week. But it’s pretty obvious that the young people have only agreed to go to the film to humor me. They see Star Wars as something from my generation, not theirs.

They may be right.

But it’s nice of them to humor me.

Marian - my son posted on FB something like “kids today don’t know Star Wars, not like my generation.” I replied - I think it’s MY generation who grew up with Star Wars, not yours! I think he did go to see it last night.

Interesting. I’ve seen A LOT of buzz on social media about this involving 20 somethings. It seems to me that young people are quite interested in seeing this film. Teens, I have no idea, but D1 and her crowd are all planning to see it.

I was dragged to see the first one in the 70’s and just not my thing. Haven’t seen a Star Wars movie since. H has no interest either. No idea if S has any interest in it.

We have Joy and The Big Short on our holiday movie list.

The elementary school kids I know are trying to talk their parents into taking them. Legos makes Star Wars kits so every kid I know is into Star Wars. I never saw any of the first set of movies in the theater and really wasn’t interested, but my grown kids grew up watching the videos (I might could recite all the dialogue from Movie #1) and saw the new set of movies as soon as they were released. While I really enjoy the movie going tradition with my kids, I am so very glad Ring and Hobbit are finished. Usually I don’t believe the Star Wars movies are so long. And I am tired of elves. By God, not another ****** elf

I remember seeing the first movie in the theaters (“a long time ago…”) My brother was the one who had to see it, but my whole family went. I’ve always liked Star Wars, but was never a fanatic. However, when when my kids were old enough we introduced them to many great movies from our generation (Star Wars, Back to the Future, etc…). It was them that became the fans over the years and had to see it opening night. Have to admit, the enthusiasm was catching…by the time last night came, I was caught up in the excitement. Kind of fun to see so many fans ready for the show (and many in costume).

Definitely enjoyed the movie…especially seeing old favorites from the previous movies—created cheers from the crowd! And while you don’t have to be familiar with the old story to understand this one, it helps in order to appreciate these characters and some of the references (glad we recently re-watched the original trilogy). Also, for better or worse, (I can see some people loving this and others hating it), there are similarities in the storyline and/or particular scenes with the old movies.
