Starting EC’s summer going into junior year too late for Ivy?

Agree. You must have some foundational knowledge in sociolinguistics to do this research. Also, you should design some kind of fieldwork. If you’re just rehashing what’s already been said - and A LOT has already been said about AAVE - then you’re not really contributing anything. If learn about sociolinguistics research methods and apply those in designing some kind fieldwork (even small scale) to answer a novel question, then you might get something interesting and even potentially worthy of publication.

I am sure club volleyball keeps you busy (easily 20-25 hours/week I expect), so be careful to not over extend yourself. As I said above, any of the ECs you are interested in are fine…so prioritize those and get started.

Does your club team do any community service together? If so, don’t forget to include that in your activities when you ultimately apply…a separate activity here can make sense. If your club team isn’t doing community service…that could be something you start up, organize, and lead.

As for recruiting, it is common to have two separate lists going…one containing colleges where you would play volleyball/intend to get the ball rolling on recruiting, and one where you wouldn’t play volleyball (those where you know you can’t be recruited plus those that fall out in terms of recruitability along the way.) You will need at least one affordable safety school on your not playing volleyball list.

As a potential recruited athlete entering their junior year I would encourage you to sit for an ACT or SAT this summer, this Fall at the latest. Where are you on test prep/planning?

You can start contacting coaches at schools where you think you might be able to be a volleyball recruit now. Your club coach should be able to help you understand what level(s) you should be targeting. You should also communicate to college coaches what tournaments you will be at this summer. If you have recruiting questions please do ask. Many CC posters have good athletic recruiting experience.
