Serious dilemma here: Our robotics team is very likely to make world champs. I was part of drive team last year, and wanted to do it again, especially because I could run for assistance coach, which if I got it, I would get the leadership captain position next year, one of the bigger leadership roles in the club.
Problem is, my brass ensemble placed first in our local competition, and were invited to play at state. The state competition happens at the same time as robotics. I didn’t know of the date for robotics worlds until a few days before the ensemble competition, which was 2 days ago.
The test for drive team is tomorrow, although i guess I could take it and change my mind on driver team within a couple days, so within a few days, I need to either tell my robotics adviser that I’m dropping out of consideration for being captain of strategy next year, and dropping out of drive team, or I tell the members of my ensemble I won’t perform with them (We have 5 people so we’re a large ensemble, 4 is a small ensemble, and different category than we won in, so if I didn’t go they would be a small ensemble performing as a small ensemble), so I feel i’d really be screwing them over if I didn’t perform with them.
How do you guys think I should go about this?
