stats for a safety, match, reach?

what kind of test scores/UW GPA make for a safety, match, reach for instate/out of state students here at virginia???

My son is a freshman, in-state, and had a 2100 SAT (1400 old). His UW GPA was about 3.8, he ranked 14th in a class of 465. He didn’t do many EC’s either (varsity golf, NHS, worked 3 years). He told me he was in a dorm room with 5 other freshman, and he had the lowest SAT’s of the group. I would have to guess he was one of the lower people accepted, definitely would have been rejected oos.

thanks a lot. anyone else?

You know, you can just find the thread where people posted if they were admitted or not because we also posted stats there. I posted on it so if you look through all of my posts (I have only 11), it’ll be fast to find it.

See, people don’t really want to list their stats again and people who didn’t get in are probably not inclined to visit this board (for obvious reasons) so maybe this thread belongs on another board? Just a thought.

sorry, i probably wasn’t clear in what i was asking for; i really don’t want to see any more students’ stats. this is the kind of reply i’m looking for (taken from university of michigan forum).

REACH
In-State: Under 3.6, Under 26
Out-Of-State: Under 3.7, Under 27

MATCH
In-State: 3.6-3.8, 26-28
Out-Of-State: 3.7-3.9, 27-30

SAFETY
In-State: 3.8-4.0, 28+
Out-Of-State: 3.9-4.0, 30+

no one can produce anything as noted above for virginia???

part of the problem might be that we don’t take the ACT in Va as a rule, so maybe no one knows the reach, match, and safety for the ACT test.

University of Michigan takes unweighted grades from sophomore and junior year.

UVa accepts weighted and unweighted grades. I don’t believe that they convert all to unweighted and publish the stats. Also, they do not seperate the in-state versus the out of state stats.

yes, i’m aware of all of this, but thanks anyways.

The counseling office at my daughter’s high school uses a program from Naviance that shows the GPA and SAT (ACT) of other kids from our school that applied to any particular school. You get a graph of the scores and an indication of whether they were accepted or rejected. That is how she figured out what was a reach / match / safety

those are called scattergrams. virtually every HS has some form of scattergram, whether they be hand written or in electronic format. they are definitely the best way to determine safety/match/reaches specific to the HS.

If you are interested, there was a big thread a while back on the Naviance online system…some HS’s systems can be accessed by guests like us. You may wish to search CC on “Naviance”. Also, ask your college coun dept for the school’s scattergrams.

So would out-of-state person, rank 1/over 200, gpa of 98+%, and sat of around 2200 (or act 32) and sat iis that go 800, 800, 700 be virtually a shoe-in RD?

well, unfortunately my school doesn’t have scattergrams on the web (that i could find), but you all have been very helpful, nonetheless.
