I saw there were some old threads on stick vacuums, but things change fast in small appliances.
I think I would like a stick vac near the kitchen. If I could easily grab something light I would be more apt to do a quick vacuum of my (tile) kitchen floor etc and that would go a long way in keeping it cleaner longer. A swiffer is okay but not as good as a vacuum.
When I read reviews online, there seems to be no consensus on the best brand etc. So I am wondering if the CC hive mind has any recommendations?
I think there’s little consensus because they’re reviewing on power, etc, and you (and i) just want to tidy up. I have a Bissell 3-in-1 which can work as a handheld or with the head and has a crevice attachment. It’s older. So, new may be even more fancy. Cheap.
The 2nd is a Eureka Easy Clean. The head doesn’t detach, which makes it pretty limited. Both are bagless. I use them for kitchen crumbs, bathroom tidy up, the corners on stairs, etc.
I have a Dyson (full size) and a Shark. I like the shark but the problem is the weight is all in the handle. Just test out the vacuum before you buy it. The shark is very lightweight over all but not when you have to continuously support the weight. Love my Dyson.
I’ve had 3 different stick vacs in the past to do a quick clean of the kitchen but I recently switched to a rechargeable hand held dirt devil - and a broom. I finally concluded that for my purposes, I usually need a quick pick up where someone spilled crumbs (dirt devil) or need to sweep the whole wood floor before mopping (broom).
I bought a dyson stick vac last year and love it, especially for cleaning the kitchen floor. I find myself cleaning it much more often since it’s so light and easy to use and the integrated hand vacuum eliminates the need for a separate “dust buster”. I especially like how well designed the dyson is with respect to changing the attachments and emptying the dirt canister which fills incredibly fast. I really think it’s worth the higher price.
LOL-- I said “wispy” tipped broom–not wispy dust bunnies. Two different animals…
The broom I’m talking about has more of a " feathery" end that picks up small stuff rather than being stiff.
Then I guess you’ll need the $$$ vacuum instead! I vote Dyson.
Consumer Reports just downgraded all their Dyson reviews because of repair problem reports.
I had one Dyson which broke (REALLY made me mad) and replaced it with a Shark. I refused to look at Dyson for awhile afterwards.
But…I went back to a Dyson. So much easier to use and did the best job.
I have a dyson animal vacuum cleaner which was expensive and I understand that it appears to be so much plastic. But the first time I used it it picked up so much stuff my Sears vac must have been missing.
I prefer bagless so I can empty as needed.
I saw two Dysons at Costco today plus a Shark but I was not intending to shop for them so I didn’t spend a lot of time looking at them. The prices seemed good though
I would wait for one of the $80 or $100 off sales at Costco for Dyson. You should be able to get a Dyson V8 Animal for around $300 if you time it right. The V10 has a longer battery life but more expensive.
$300 is a long way from $30 for a stick mainly for kitchen crumbs and an occasional dust bunny.
I do agree most people like a Dyson (tho there are complaints about the weight balance and battery life (before a recharge.) But what is OP looking for? An incidental vac or a major choice for the home?
The Dyson V8 Animal is not the lightest but much lighter than any traditional vacuum. Mine goes about 35-40 minutes before a charge is needed. Suction power does NOT go down as the battery power gets lower.
I have a Shark Rocket Complete. It is less than $200 and is corded. I can detach the head if I want to use it as a handheld vacuum and it also had attachments. Use it all the time especially in the kitchen.
