Seriously, I need help! My son wears his Timberland boat type shoes without socks and has just figured out that his feet stink! When he was in high school I use to buy need insoles for the shoes and that would help for a while, but not for long.

He does not want to wear socks ever, but wanted to know what kind of low socks were available that would not show. There is nothing in men’s so he said, what about the peds that women wear? He wears a size 12 shoe, so I don’t think a women’s peds would fit him. I am going to check while out today, but I am not holding my breath!

I have suggested he put foot powder on his feet before he puts his shoes on, but he doesn’t like that idea. Is there something else he could do to avoid the smelly feet? My husband also wears his boat shoes without socks, but his feet don’t smell. There is just something about my son’s feet that causes the odor; when he has his physical next I told his to ask his doctor

BTW, this is my stubborn son; he has decided he want to wear peds and unless I come up with a wonderful suggestion, I am not sure he will go for it. I am just happy he is now concerned with his smelly feet; there must be a girl in the picture :-)

Dr. Scholl’s sells a spray that you can spray on your feet before putting on your shoes - I think it’s called Odor Destroyers, if he’d be any more likely to use that than foot powder.

Beat me to it juba - I swear by Odor Destroyers, since I like to wear my shoes without socks in the warm weather, it works like a charm! D keeps stealing it for her hockey skates!

There are products out there that will stop your feet from sweating. Need a prescription, so talk to your doctor. Also, lots of soaking and scrubbing to make sure that the feet are clean, clean, clean.

I have a pair of Wallabees that are lined with shearling and they started to smell a little bit after I wore them without socks a few times…I just used Febreeze and they smell a lot better now.

One other approach is to have multiple pairs and switch from day to day to let them dry out. The engineer in me says to build a device that blows air into the boots, perhaps powered by a USB port (I have a few of these that I use to cool down laptops) to dry them out quickly.

I think the best approach is to use socks. Some kids are funny with socks though. Our son always wears his socks inside-out as he doesn’t like the feel of the fuzzy thing on the inside.

My boys will only wear “no show” socks. They are cut low enough so they are not visible with sneakers. I buy them in packages of 6 at sporting goods stores/department stores.

Place some freshly printed newspapers in the shoes and replace every day x three days.
It should work - but make sure you put a newspaper in the shoes each time you take them of.

No show socks son here too - must be a new trend :)

I saw something on television about people who have unusual foot odor and they were told to soak them in tea - I can’t remember the type of tea though. Could probably google it. I doubt you’ll get a teenage boy to do that anyway.

With regard to Uggs, I think the problem comes when kids wear them when it’s not really cold enough for them. If someone is wearing Uggs with a mini skirt, then it’s too warm and the feet will sweat. Or it’s the body’s way of warning of a major fashion faux pas. They were not designed to be worn the way that lots of kids wear them.

I saw a segment of Oprah. She had Dr. Oz on and they talked about this. He recommended to someone with a foot odor problem to soak her feet tea. Do a search for the specific info. I think the tea can stain your skin and/or dry your skin. Don’t know if your son wants to go through this much effort, rather than wearing socks.

The no show socks all show in his boat shoes; they are good for tennis shoes, but for his everyday shoes they show. This is why he thought of wearing women’s peds since they are made for women’s dress shoes. I need to look maybe at a women’s big and tall shop; maybe they would have the size he needs.

He has Gold Bond powder but doesn’t like to use it. My son will only wear socks for occasions when he has to be in dress pants, a suit or a tux or when participating in a sport. He has some great looking dress socks and uses no show athletic socks for his tennis shoes.

Bunsen- You are a lifesaver; that is exactly what we are looking for!!

He would prefer the nude color, so that is what he will be getting. Now, can I wait and give these to him for Hanukkah or should I be a sport and get them for him now? Better yet, I can send him the link and he can buy them himself!!
