Stocking stuffers 2018

Several years ago, I ordered goofy mints from some company that someone on here recommended. I remember they had all sorts of fun mints, bandaids and things. Anyone remember or have another idea?

  • mini flashlights
  • sewing kits (actually, I've seen some adorable stocking stuffer type ideas in welcome bag parts of the wedding thread!)
  • if you live in an infested area, a tick key

When I’m looking for small gift ideas, I tend to wander either a kitchen store or hardware store. Little bins near the checkout area have the greatest stuff.

Oh yeah! The Archie.

I put Bombas socks in everyone’s stocking last year and they all seemed pleased. I also like to give ornaments. We have large needlepoint stockings, so it takes lots to make them look respectably filled. I look forward to your ideas. Last year I got the idea about the colorful rubber bands in different sizes from the stocking thread and gave some of those to my son.

@HouseChatte - what is a tick key?

I like to buy everyone socks-running/athletic socks for D, S and SIL as well as nice dress socks for H, S and SIL.

Another CC’er suggested nail clippers for the guys and that has been a big hit (who knew?)

I usually put in a $25 gift card to somewhere the person likes but may not spend money at themselves. This year I may tweak that a little bit. My D is getting married just after Christmas and moving into a new apartment. So, I will likely put in a bigger gift card to a local to her grocery store and maybe some household cleaning supplies to fill in the stocking.

Today I bought beard wax and bath sugar cubes for my kids’ stockings. I’m trying to fill their stockings from small businesses this year and have been hitting up a lot of craft fairs. I bought my daughter a cute dish towel that says OMG - My Mother was Right about Everything!

^ Thank you @psychmomma for the great idea!

When my kids were little, I used to include a small, round, ornament-sized bottle of coke in their stocking (found them at Walmart every year). We never kept soft drinks in the house, and my son said, “Now I know Santa is real because mom would never buy this!”

I’m so glad for this stocking thread. I also will do a stocking for my S’s girlfriend, who will be spending the holidays with us. It will be our first time meeting her! I’m so nervous and excited! I’d welcome “son’s girlfriend” ideas if you have them, too.

@psychmomma Lush bath bombs! Or soaps, body wash etc… a little pricey but the girls are obsessed!

Here’s the 2018 catalog of Hallmark ornaments. Maybe you could find something appropriate? https://www.hallmark.com/digital-dream-book/?adobe_mc_sdid=SDID%3D58FEF9D65CAEB233-29E03CDA5244C69A%7CMCORGID%3D941602BE532956BD0A490D4C%40AdobeOrg&srule=featured-psort5#products&srule=featured-psort5

Tickets to an event they could attend together?

Pretty personalized stationary/note cards? (I got this one year when I was young, and I really appreciated it)

Matching his and her novelty socks?

A nice bath/body set?

I’m following - we may be in this situation soon!

Unfortunately, we’ve gotten way too much use from ours here in New England.

Stockings are the one thing we just haven’t changed…much. First…DH has always done the stocking purchases. Everyone gets a real book! There is a selection of nuts, and fruits, and a little candy. Everyone gets a new pair of socks.

My contribution is a small ornament that is hung on the outside.

The tweak is that the types of nuts vary, as do the candies and fruits. DH loves to do this…honestly, our kids sort of expect the same “stuff”.

My kids came to expect the same stuff too- but the year I didn’t include toothpaste, toothbrushes, and floss, they were quite happy! Lol!!

My mom always did the toothbrush, chapstick, nice face cream, chocolate and scratch off cards as well as other varied stuff each year.

If you need a space filler I liked giving my kids a Tervis tumbler with a patch that pertained to whatever they liked at the time - dogs, sparkly heart, moose,Red Sox… One year I got them all the same cup but paid a little more for their names to be put on the other side. You can also make them with family pictures in there- a friend made one for me and I love it.

A small, unisex (and girlfriend appropriate) stuffer is a portable phone charger. I had one the I really liked and held about 3 recharges for my phone, but one of my kids took it and I orders some new ones that don’t work at all. Pay for the better ones. Also new earbuds, long charger cords, or other electronics that always seem to disappear.

@twoinanddone Do you remember which portable charger it was that you liked?

I’ve had one of these for a long time but would like to get something that holds more charges https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P7N0320/ref=emc_b_5_t

A keychain phone charger! Invaluable when you forget your long cord. Kind of like this one but there are plenty of other options.

^ I love that idea, @BunsenBurner

You could also clip it onto a backpack or handbag! I may get myself one
