Streaming Services - NewChoices

Has anyone signed up for the new Apple or Disney+ streaming services? Thinking of adding to your current line up or replacing something else?

Too confusing. Too many choices. Maybe I’m old (well, not maybe) but there are too many to choose from, and they all provide different programming, have different costs, and none of them provides everything we want.

Nope. Read the reviews and see if it’s what you want. Between live TV, Hulu live and Netflix for right now I get everything I need.

You will see some of these services not last. These are like experiments to see what sticks.

Anyone who has Verizon unlimited can get Disney+ for free for a year. I did sign up for it since it was free, mostly for my college daughter who is still Disney obsessed…

No. We only have Netflix, although I’m seriously considering Amazon.

We have HBOgo, Netflix, Amazon Prime and just got Disney+. I really only got HBO for GoT, so I’m not sure I’ll continue that one. S19 says he’s going to start watching it more… we’ll see.
We use Netflix ALOT and pay the extra cost for multiple screens at once. S19’s school doesn’t have cable in the dorms, so it’s his go-to when he wants to watch something.
DH uses Amazon more than anyone else in our family. It comes w/ our Prime acct, which is a necessity, so I’m definitely not getting rid of that one!!
The Disney+ has been a surprise. There’s more on there than I expected. I still don’t think we’ll use it as much as Netflix, but it also costs alot less than Netflix so I’m ok with the cost.
If I can ever find a way to watch near constant live MLB baseball w/o paying for cable, I’d probably get rid of our Spectrum.

I forgot to mention we have Amazon prime since it’s basically free. Miss Mazel is a must watch!!

@ChaosParent23. I have Hulu Live. No cable. I get like every sport known to man. This is the reason I got it. Plus all the movies and original shows are good. Think you can test it out for like a week or so for free. I get all college /professional /international sports I can handle.

I may have to try it next spring @Knowsstuff !! I know I can upgrade my Disney+ to add Hulu and ESPN+ for another I think $7/month. Do you have the ad-free Hulu? I’ve heard that’s the only drawback to the extended Disney+ is that you can’t get the ad-free.

Right now I’m paying for Spectrum Silver (which doesn’t really get used much) w/ the upgraded GB internet (which we REALLY need!). Plus every spring I pay for MLB Xtra Innings and MLB At Bat. It’s ridiculous how much all of that costs!

@ChaosParent23. I have Hulu Live. It’s like $49. 00/month but I get like all the ESPNs, I can handle for me. I don’t pay anything extra for MLB and get like every game played.

Hulu live gives me like 70 different channels like CNN, ESPN etc etc plus my local live channels
I also use a HD antenna for local channels since sometimes it’s just easier to change inputs plus I am not using an extra user for streaming. It comes with a dvr function that we barely use since everything is basically there wherever I want to watch it. Saving $150 /month compared to Comcast with internet. A few glitches here and there but remind myself I am saving $150/month… Lol… Think I can pay a few dollars more for ad free but it hasn’t really been an issue.

I do all of this through an Amazon firestick attached to the tvs.

I’ll have to research how much we’d save if we just paid for the upgraded internet. It may or may not be worth it as I know it comes as a bundle. We’re moving (hopefully!!) into our forever home this spring-summer to it would be the perfect time to make changes.
Thanks for the info!

We just dropped our cable and got YouTubeTV. We chose it over some others because we can get all our local channels and we wanted to be able to DVR a lot. It’s been a couple of months and so far we have no complaints. We already had Amazon and Netflix. Overall it’s saving us at least $50/month.

Np. Never heard of Spectrum but my wife just told me that the TV show “Mad about you” is doing a revival with new shows and that was like “our show”. Need to figure out how to get it… It’s on Spectrum… Lol…

What is on the Disney network that has everyone so excited? I’m not really sure what it is offering.

I am also one of the least “Disney” people around.

We have cable, Netflix, Amazon and I via one of my kids have Hulu available to me. MORE than enough.

Netflix, Amazon Prime (incl Acorn and Britbox,) Hulu (D’s account,) and for basics, SlingTv (incl Showtime.) Still can’t always find something interesting. Should subscribe to Masterpiece (via Prime,) but as it is, already too many fees.

Haven’t watched local channels in ages.

We have Netflix and Amazon and D1 and D2 split the cost of Hulu which we all share too. I don’t see a need to add any additional services or costs!

Spectrum is just cable. They merged w/ Time Warner a few years back

As for Disney… well you get all the Disney stuff obviously, as well as Pixar and Star Wars. But I wasn’t aware that they also own Marvel and National Geo. So you get that as well.

Disney posted a video not too long ago that listed everything either on + now, or coming in the next year… it was a 2.5 hour long video!

I’m going to add Disney. I love ESPN+ and with the bundling Disney isn’t that much more than I’ve been paying

Any idea how to get CNBC (without our Spectrum cable)? We have Netflix and Amazon prime. H only watches CNBC during the day. I pay $80 for the Spectrum Silver plan (to get the CNBC and only one TV) and $70 for internet.

Husband is sampling the 7 day free trial of Apple TV+. Just went down to our media room and peeked in. The user interface/menu thingie is very well laid out and clean looking. Much better look than Netflix, Amazon, etc. Not sure if we’ll keep it or not but Apple is definitely undercutting the competition at only $4.99 per month.

We actually pulled the plug on cable back at the beginning of the year. I watch a lot less TV now but we still have a lot of services but some of that is to get the sports my husband wants to watch which is world soccer channels and tennis.
