One- how many students receive financial aid and what financial aid is available and how accessible is it?

Two- are there more single semester and “study abroad” students than students that stay for four whole years? Also, how diverse is the student body? Mostly french?

Three- what is it like living in Paris? I heard you came from a small town, how hard/easy was the change for you? (I come from a small town two :D) what is housing like? How expensive is general living?

Four- How would you rate the academic quality and overall education experience?

Five- How friendly are the people? how tolerant of other cultures/religions?

Six- I speak French almost fluently because I am half Moroccan where french is widely spoken. Would that help my acceptance into this university? (But I am an American citizen because my mother is american, but I live in Morocco) THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! :D

Sorry if these are a lot of questions but I’m just really excited to find someone who actually goes there and can give me some answers because I am seriously considering going to AUP. It would be such a wonderful experience.

I am very interested in attending a university in paris after high school in the US. So far i only really know of AUP that offers an undergrad program in Paris, france. I have near fluency in french and i am fluent in spanish, so i could go to an all french university that speaks french 100% but I don’t know of any. I am interested in paris 1(pantheon) but they do not have an undergrad program that I know of. Do you know any other good universities in paris that offer an undergrad program with classes somewhat similar to the PPE program at AUP? another reason that I am not considering AUP is the price and lack of financial support, and i figure that if i went to another university they might have a bigger endowment? And sorry I am dragging this out still but I feel as if an actual french university would help me get better in french and truly live in their culture whereas at AUP I would still be speaking english most of the time. Also if I did go to a french university then would my majors/ minors transfer from france to the US? and could i get a bachelor’s degree? I eard somewhere that it only takes you three years of education at a university in france to get a bachelor’s degree versus four years in the US. Is this true? thank you(:

I’m a junior in college in the US and unfortunately my visa expired. As an alternative to getting a student visa and pay the enormous price tags of the universities, I flew back home, to France (I have a french nationality). I already have 74 credits, and my major is Biology. My questions basically are;

Do my credits transfer to AUP?

Does AUP have my major? (Biology)

I know that in Switzerland, they have semesters, yet you cannot start the year any time you like. You have to start from Fall. How does AUP work regarding that?

Well here are my questions, hopefully I get some answers.

Reading through this thread I noticed it was mentioned that those with money are basically a shoe in for this school…so if I come from a little less (understatement of the year) fortunate background, should I not address my financial information in my personal statement? It probably sounds weird that I’m suggesting to neglect my financial situation, I just don’t want the school to think I won’t be able to find funding for my education.

I also remember reading that the school loved to hear about our traveling experiences and why we would like to attend AUP specifically, but I plan to apply through the commonapp, and nowhere does it allow us to write about either of the topics…I don’t mind writing more (ie. supplements) but nowhere does it ask for it. Has the application changed by requesting fewer items?

Having gone through the whole process of applying for universities only a year ago, I know how tedious it can be to find reliable information on the colleges you’re looking at.

I’m here as a Freshman at AUP (the American University of Paris) to provide you with any information you might be looking for.

I have the same problem, I decided to write an essay (and put in “topic of choice”) which somehow explains why I want to study international politics, why I love to be a part of a very international community, I explain how my background has helped to this, etc … but do you think it would sound too generic? or like I’m just saying what they want to hear? (Because I really mean it!)

Also, I’ve sending e-mails since September and I haven’t gotten any answers! :S

oh greaat! i was looking for help!
I’m currently in grade 11 and I was looking into early acceptance for next year
Would they take my grade 11 marks? and still ask for my grade 12 ones?
How should i go about getting the scholarships and funding from the school?
And what are they looking for in applications?

They would probably still look for your grade 12 marks… so make sure you get them as high as possible! As for getting scholarships and funding: the process is fairly easy (certainly compared to some US Colleges). Keep in mind, however, that AUP itself only grants scholarships and financial aid of a maximum of half of the tuition fee. Then again, if you’re an American Citizen, you can apply for the FAFSA as well.

As for the application, just make sure that you put forward your interest in learning in an exceedingly multicultural and international environment. Many people here have lived in two or more countries and nearly all speak at least three languages. These are not requirements of all students, but be sure to come up with a (new) quality that you would bring to an already international community.

All in all, it is not the easiest college to get into (because it is so small), but I can tell you the rewards are great: personally, I wouldn’t want to be at any other place in the world.

oh okay. no im a canadian citizen so im looking all around for scholarships and grants…
i speak english french and spanish… so… i shouldnt stress that because it’s the norm there? hmm what kind of quality do you mean? leadership skills? a wide variety of extracurriculars?
im so nervous, i really want to gooo.

English, French and Spanish is good, make sure you mention it! (I meant that if you didn’t speak two or more languages, you might have had to compensate in another field to show your international focus).

Otherwise, if you really, really wan’t to go, you should be fine: your enthusiasm will shine through in your essays and as you back up your application with good grades and something of a vision on the specific reasons you want to go AUP, you should have a very good application!

Oh and extracurriculars are never a downside indeed (just apply as you would apply to a US college: give them reasons to accept you).

oh goood! wipe sweat face
this isnt seeming so daunting anymore loool!
i should be in the 9e arrondisement this summer, so i think i’m gonna check out the school. do they give tours / open houses? and are there brochures I could pick up ?

The Campus buildings are actually located in the 7th (not the 9th),
but some will probably be open during the summer (as there are some summer programs running as well). You should definitely take a look at the AUP website ([The American University of Paris | Welcome](http://www.aup.edu/)) to see whether they give any tours during the summer; I don’t think so, but you should drop by nonetheless to get a sense of the general vibe of the College!

yea, but i figured that i might as well drop by because the distance between the 9th - 7th is waaaaay closer than it is between toronto and the 7th lol!
are double majors really hard at AUP?

Haha, indeed it is ^^
Double Majors are actually quite challenging. Whether you take one also depends on how long you’ll be staying at AUP, as there are some students who carry credit from an IB and only have to stay for 3 years instead of 4 (and they most likely will not have the time to do a double major).

That said, if you are particularly motivated and get great marks, you can always find the possibility to go for it, and you’ll have plenty of contact hours with your professors to make a well-informed choice!

thanks soooo much! no , i wasnt in the ib program.
if you take a major in say, Intl Bus and a minor in French, can u still take spanish courses as electives?

Hi - My daughter will be attending SciencesPo for spring semester as an exchange student. They do not have student housing - any thoughts on a safe, close district to look for either homestay lodging or a small flat. Do you love it there?

At Beeclassy: you sure can! It’s one of the nice things about AUP; even with a major and minor you will still have enough place to take some courses that are just for your own interest.

At Pumpkin5: nice that your daughter will be visiting us! Considering houses (from my point of view), you can’t really go wrong. AUP has got lots of contacts with local landlords (and -ladies) and they’re really committed to getting every student a room he/she likes. The only thing I would discourage at this moment is getting into the newfound ‘Campus’ called Campusea: the rooms are extremely clean, tastefully decorated and very very safe, but in my opinion you really are paying more than you should (and you’re quite far away from school). Then again, there are some people that love it here: it just depends on your needs and wishes!

While I was reading through the other thread, I noticed that it was mentioned quite a lot that as long as the applicant has the money for it, AUP would be a great fit.

I had planned to apply to AUP through commonapp, where my essays and short answer are both written about how it is to be a little less fortunate. I was wondering if I should create a new version of my commonapp to change my essay+short answer even though commonapp suggests that it is “not necessary to “customize” your Common Application for individual colleges,” I don’t want my application to be overlooked because the university thinks that I am incapable of finding funding for my tuition.

I also remember reading that the school loved to hear about our traveling experiences and why we would like to attend AUP specifically, but again, I plan to apply through the commonapp, and nowhere does it allow us to write about either of the topics…I don’t mind writing more (ie. supplements) but nowhere does it ask for it. Has the application changed by requesting fewer items?

Sorry about the long question!
To sum it all up, should I change my essays from the less fortunate angle and approach them with my hopes of traveling?
