Study Schedule

Hi!

I’m currently a sophomore in my second semester. I’ve recently started prepping for the SAT due to its vital role in college admissions. My goal is to attend Columbia, Cornell or Notre Dame and I understand their competitive standards for their applicants.

Before starting SAT prep, I took a practice test and scored an 1800 on it. I have approximately 12 months until I take my first SAT in January or 14 months until I take it in March. I plan on taking it only twice so I really need both to count.

Is it possible to raise my SAT score to a 2300 before then?

If so, how would you recommend I plan my schedule?

Right now I was planning on doing approximately 2 hours every weekend until summer in which I would do about 1-2 hours everyday(to also study for the PSAT). And upon my return Junior year, I was planning on doing approximately 5 hours every weekend until 30 days before the exam in which I would do approximately 1-2 hours every night except on the weekends where I would continue to do 5 hours.

Thanks for your help!

Kudos to you for getting ready early. I would recommend taking it in Jan., because you’re less likely to forget what you learned earlier in the year. Instead of planning chunks of time, plan to do a chapter in your test prep books every few days or so. If you’re committed enough, try to take a practice test every 2 weeks and review your answers in-depth. I don’t think it’s necessary to study 5 hours every weekend for a score over 2300- you’ll get burnout. Anyways, I scored over a 2100 with maybe 10 hours total studying.

I vote too early. Study for the PSAT (It is different). Christmas break of next year, start pounding for the May test. Retake in Oct if necessary. GL
