Studying-Do you really work or no?

Studying…are you the type to study so much more than you really need to? Or you slide by on your smarts?

I know I’m guilty of overstudying :)

I definitely overstudy for history. But, I enjoy history. Actually, I study(-ied) the expected amount for my AP history classes, it’s just that everyone ridiculously understudies.

I used to study alot science (Chem, Physics) but then I realised I got the same grade either way so I stopped doing more than the required review.

I should study more then I do (I’m lazy), and I manage to mostly get decent grades by just paying attention during class. I guess studying just isn’t really effective for me.

i need to study more :(

I slide by on my smarts. I really feel no need to study if I pay attention in class. (And yes, I am being serious.)

I really should study more…
even when I try to study I lose focus quickly.

I definitely over study for AP calc and AP gov because I’m intimidated by my teachers so I psych myself out more than necessary. I’ll admit that I don’t necessarily rely on my smarts but I tend to get cocky when it comes to AP Physics tests… and that’s never worked to my advantage.

I study AHEAD, which means I learn new material monthes in advance so I can relax and get through school easily.

Ditto. I’ve never studied more than half an hour for anything in my life–and thats just huge tests (usually sciences…eh)

For me, there seems to be an inverse relationship with studying and grades. :D

Yeah. I overstudy all the time. Last year for APUSH, I read each chapter at the beginning and then at the end the night before the test. For midterms, I tried rereading all the chapters we’d covered and outlining them in detail.

I think I often go beyond what I need to do to get a decent grade, but I’m the type of person who always worries about not doing enough, so it’s kind of hard to control my overstudying.

I don’t study at all. The few times I did, it was only for about 30 minutes and during finals  .

I’ve sort of noticed the same thing chaos mentioned…

I always intend to study, but put it off and get distracted… so I never get much done.
could come to hurt me next year in college though.

I tend to just stare at the notes/handouts for hours. I have a photographic memory, so flashcards DO NOT work for me. It’s terrible. But if i look at a sheet, i will remember exactly where it is on the page and what it usually says. Good for memorization classes, bad for concepts.

Depends on the subject. For my AP classes I definitely overstudy, but sometimes for my “regular” classes I get kind of cocky and don’t study as much as I should (i.e. last semester I got an A+ in AP Microecon but almost got a B in Geology)

I can nevery study cause I usually pay attention in class, and even when I do study I lose focus and pay attention to something else. I know I should study more, but it’s so hard to stay focused and motivated. Oh well, I usually get A’s anyways (except when it comes to humanity classes like english and history)

I’m like that.

So last night, I attempted to study for AP US Government by reading my textbook, and I got…2 pages into it. Then I fell asleep on my book.

Last year (9th grade), I did not study at all and got straight A’s. It’s harder to do this year with AP classes.

The only test I can remember really studying for this year was my AP calculus midterm. I went through all the chapters we’d covered and did practice problems, then I did chapter test questions from the book for each chapter. Then I got a B- on the midterm. :frowning: Ouch. It was my worst test grade ever, I think. And it (along with the the final) counts for 25% of the grade in that class. Ouch.

Normally I just do the assigned review. That works, for most classes.

The exception: world religions. The teacher gives us the test questions ahead of time (good, because he expects an essay in answer to each of them… and no, giving us the questions ahead of time hardly guarantees good/passing grades from all students)–he gives us 6 questions total, and we have to do 4 on the test (he picks one, we choose the other three). There is some in-class review, sharing ideas for answers to the questions, but I always go home and write complete answers to all the questions. Sometimes I use the book to help, and sometimes I do it just like the exam, from memory. AND… it works! I have gotten 100% on every exam in that class–and it’s a class that people avoid taking for fear of wrecking their GPAs. :D

i don’t overstudy. i read my psych chapter the day before the test and i do the best in the class.

although, that may just be psych.

I’m too lazy to study and always try for the easy way out like sparknotes for english. However, nothing substitutes for reading the real book and my grades are beginning to show :(
