Assigned seats at the movie theater.
I really enjoy the leather reclining seats.

You can get assigned seats at your movie theater? Sounds great!
Really, we must be slumming it here cause we certainly do not have leather reclining seats in our movie theater. Sounds nice though. I always thought movie theaters should serve beer and wine. That would be a nice addition.
Our movie theater serves beer and wine and they have the leather seats. I HATE preassigned seats. What do you do when the 6’8" individual plunks down in front of you? Or the couple that absolutely has to discuss the movie sits behind you? Or better yet…the one individual who really needs a shower shares your armrest. Yup. All have happened.
Uh…assigned seats, leather recliners, full menu, craft beer and cocktails.
This is a splurge night for us. We are going to see Star Wars tomorrow night in style!
NYDJ brand jeans. Still contemplating. $120 for a pair of jeans? But they are so soft and comfortable. I’m giving it thought.
Where are these luxe theaters?
Now that I’ve gone to two movies in the assigned, reclining seats, I can’t imagine sitting in regular seats. At ours they are so spread out and stadium style so there’s plenty of space between people and no chance of someone blocking my view. We hardly ever go to the movies, so this splurge is worth it!
Staying slope side when skiing, or at a minimum on the shuttle line.
Staying on the beach when we go to the beach.
@rockvillemom, jeans that fit? That is not even a splurge!!!
Disney peeps should appreciate… We have a booking at the Chef’s Counter at Napa Rose next week. Bigger splurge is that I plan on getting the wine pairings with the tasting menu.
As for jeans, I have a pair of NYDJ that I like and bought a pair of J Brand jeans at a charity event. Both fit well, but these crazy cheap jeans from Costco fit me the best. http://www.costco.com/Gloria-Vanderbilt-Ladies’-Amanda-Stretch-Denim-Jean—Dark-Blue-Wash.product.100033939.html I did find that I had to go a size down in the online order.
I don’t know of a movie theater with assigned seats, but we do have one with waiter service. You can order real food, or just Twizzlers and Diet Coke, and they bring it to your seat which has a little table attached.
My parents never went to the movies until the fancy theater opened two miles from their house. (Closer than the nearest grocery store or gas station.) Now they go every weekend.
Heated reclining seats. Downstairs you can carry in (from the on-site restaurant) a good variety of casual food foods: sandwiches, salads, burgers, fries, ice cream treats. They’ll give you free 12oz cups with lids and straws for ice water. Full concession stand, free chocolate-coated mints. $5 tickets on Wednesdays, no extra charge for 3D. One day we went in for the first showing, and the restaurant was delayed in opening because of a power outage the night before, and the manager brought our food to our seats so no one had to miss the movie.
Upstairs, a waitperson takes your order at your seat, and each seat has a little swinging table. You can get the same stuff they serve downstairs, but generally better prepared and a larger portion at the same price. Also some “real meal” entrees - pasta and chicken and beef. Served on china plates with substantial flatware. Also anything you’d want from the full bar.
The seats are raked enough that even kids can see over tall adults directly in front of them. There’s enough space between rows that you can be fully reclined and have someone walk through the row without bumping your feet. Enough room on either side you can entirely ignore strangers next to you.
My only gripe is that upstairs is 21+, and the downstairs recliner theaters don’t keep the same show times. So if you want to go with kids and want to drink or get better food, you either have to do balcony (uncomfortable loveseat nonreclining seats) and the theater below (standard movie seats) and watch the same showing, or someone waits around before the movie and someone waits after.
Also, they have the nicest public bathrooms I have ever seen, always spotlessly clean and with multiple lounging areas if you’re inclined to hang out in a public bathroom.
If I win the Powerball I will keep all these splurges in mind. But first I would have to splurge on a ticket.
Our Stickley furniture - a “settle” (fancy name for sofa) and a Morris chair. It’s over 20 years old and going strong. We had a small inheritance from my Grandma, put a downpayment on a house and went furniture shopping. We loved the Stickley (we lived 45 minutes from the factory and showroom), but the price! 4 times anything else. So we looked at knockoffs, and nothing compared; all the other furniture was SO poorly made, in comparison. So we splurged, and boy, was it worth it. We still love it and I’m sure DS will happily take it when we are gone.
Oh, yes, and nonstop flights at reasonable times (haven’t been able to try first class yet, but someday… my son has always drooled over frist class, so someday I want to see him try it, whether he ends up paying or I do).
For us near-sighted folks: a good pair of eyeglasses.
Our Cinemark theaters have the regular and the reserved seating. There is a full restaurant, and one can bring food or drinks into the theatre.
I also splurge on direct flights. I dislike running thru the Atlanta airport to another terminal.
Going back to #114 @greenwitch - Yes! I have had that metallic taste happen to me with pine nuts from China once! It was horrible, especially because lasted for several weeks!
