Stuff worth SPLURGING for

Yea @rockvillemom - I see them all the time at the Nordstrom Racks in our area!

Our Pergo flooring…Love, love, love it…It looks just as great years later as it did when it was installed with absolutely minimal care.

Mr. Fang and I have splurged a few times by eating at a two Michelin star, now three star restaurant. So worth it!

I’m kind of embarrassed now, reading this thread, though. We’re a rich bunch here. We splurge on vacation homes, Michelin starred restaurants and Stickley furniture. We fly so often that the splurge isn’t the flight, but the Global Entry so the flight is more convenient.

And the other 95% is reading this and thinking, wow, we splurge by taking the family to Olive Garden, or staying in a motel when we’re camping and it starts to pour.

Almost forgot. We had som delicious duck ravioli last night. Shared amongst 4 of us- though 2 of us are trying to lose weight. But it was a worthwhile splurge. Yum!

Heated tile bathroom floors. Hardcover books. Race entry fees.

Cardinal Fang, that is true when I think about it. a very fortunate bunch we are.
Some of what we’ve been able to do in the past year has been the result of a fairly non-splurge life (except for the Viva paper towels). We’re still in the house we bought 23 years ago while some of H’s young colleagues are spending upwards of $500K for their starter home; lifestyle has given us wiggle room.

The vacation place was going to be a fixer-upper and ease us into retirement. The splurge was stumbling on the perfect place and spending the extra to not have to do a thing. H and I are back to doing our own house cleaning, eating pretty much at home or inexpensive restaurants/happy hour, and not buying things just because.

I will be eating tuna 3 meals a day and still buying my Viva towels!

A theater subscription with Orchestra seats gives H and I a great date night to look forward to every couple of months, and we’re content with a local happy hour beforehand. I also decided a few years ago that if I am going to a concert, I need to have really good seats, so I will splurge there and it is always worth it. Keratin blowouts for my naturally frizzy hair are also worth every penny - they have honestly changed my life!

Our house in San Diego. Of course too expensive but oh I do love it here. I felt at home the moment we first walked in the door and that hasn’t changed. No regrets at all on this one.

Monthly massages. My hair stylist. Asics Gel Kayano running shoes.

We’re putting in a steam room - contractor is starting next week. Can’t wait!

@PacNWparent , agree about the Asics Gel Kayano’s…I have/love them too. They WERE a splurge.

A great mattress and great fitting shoes. I spend most of my life on them.

Travel.
Stationery.
Bed linens and towels.
Private tennis lessons.
Books.
High end chocolates - Maison du Chocolat (sp?).
Hair stylist and color.

Heated car seats

At our vacation home, we tore up our driveway and installed a heated snow-melt system. It’s great to stay warm indoors and watch the neighbors shovel.

Puppy. From the nonprofit shelter. Invisible fence containment system so puppy can go outside to play. Quality puppy food. Puppy car seat. Puppy toys. Hmmm… I am seeing a theme here!

Doggie door so the pups can go in and out themselves.

A really good double boiler espresso machine like the Alex Duetto III by Izzo…

That’s quite a machine. Seems pretty complicated though - how long does it take to make the coffee?

Grind, tap, and brew a double espresso in about 1 minute. Froth milk for 1 cappuccino in about 1 minute.
