We are visiting University of Dayton on a Junior Day next month (Feb 2024), and have hotel reservations near campus. Would love to hear if anyone has suggestions for where to walk to eat, places to visit that give a good sense of the community and general life on campus. Any input will help, thank you! FWIW, we are traveling from North Carolina, and don’t have any local connections. Just staying for a day.
Replying here to remind me to give you a detailed reply later! I’ll have some suggestions for you.
OK, it’s been about five years since we visited with D19, but here were highlights I remember:
Walkable from campus:
Milano’s Pizza and Subs (the subs!)
Rusty Taco
Submarine House
(there’s a lot of other fast food on this street as well)
Not quite walkable:
Jimmie’s Ladder 11
Not walkable, but has lots of yummy food spots:
2nd Street Market
The campus itself is pretty contained, so in the immediate area you will see the college community. Venture a little further and some of the neighborhood isn’t … great. Not so much as unsafe, but just not much there to do.
Maybe someone who’s been there more recently can speak to what the students are doing around town lately.
@M_Fun Thank you for these great suggestions! I’m always looking for the local food when we travel, so I’ll be sure to check these out.
For dinner, check out the Pine Club. Really good steaks and it has an old-school steakhouse vibe. It’s expensive and takes cash only. And I second the recommendation for Milano’s - great subs.
@KeystoneState64 That’s a great suggestion for dinner, and glad to know Milano’s is seconded. Now I’m hungry for subs…
Oh yes, definitely Pine Club
If @EconPop is out there ……their student attends.
