Suggestions needed for a last minute fall vacation

chocchipcookie (where’s your avatar, btw), it’s obvious how uneducated I am about the geography of the southern states. :">
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this job change really happens as planned. A trip in the fall would be so nice!

to add to ChocoChip’s list, near Miami is Coral Gables and L’l Havana. If one goes mid state, Lego park and Universal, with the Harry Potter set.

If you get to Sarasota or Miami, eat at the Columbia…an awesome Cuban restaurant.

I love Savannah and Charleston. Also, Williamsburg VA is charming in the fall.

It really would be nice weather wise in FLA that time of the year.

chocchipcookie, I’m tired just reading your post! That is one heck of a lot of driving!

Also, Savannah is more than two hours from Jacksonville.

A taste of the southeast…Charleston to Savannah to St. Augustine and Amelia Island, FL. It’s about a 2 hour drive between each and Southwest services both CHS and JAX. You have the option to venture farther into Florida if you feel like driving.

Oooh… maybe weave in a 7 day cruise? They seem to leave from Miami,. Ft Lauderdale, or Tampa Bay. The great thing is that they include room AND food.

Here’s an example of deais that I got in my email today.

I was also going to suggest a stop in St Augustine. It’s been years since we were there but it was a lovely town with an interesting history. Another possibility would be to spend some time around the Space Coast.

We went to Key West in March and loved it. The boat trip to Dry Tortugas (and snorkeling) was especially fun.

Florida is terrific for last minute run-away vacations…not a lot of planning required. Late November should be past hurricane season unless it is unusually hot. Bring $5000 to Florida and you can have a blast for two weeks most anywhere in the Sunshine State.

Don’t go looking for the Columbia Restaurant in Miami…ain’t one there. The location in Sarasota is ok, but the original, main Columbia Restaurant is in Tampa’s historic Ybor City district. If you go to the Columbia in Tampa for lunch, get a table in the Patio Dining Room. http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/

Oops…Tampa! There is also a Columbia in Celebration…a step ford wives town located nearer to Orlando. Oh…and my personal favorite is their salad…some number salad! It’s great!

alwaysamom: ha,ha…I don’t expect lilmom and her H to drive the entire state! :))
They’re from San Diego, so I was listing cities and their locations for her perspective to perhaps decide what she could include if they decide to head to Key West…yeah, waaaay too much driving.
^^my-3-sons has a good itinerary, but doesn’t include Key West…lots of choices…lots of golf courses for H too in Florida!
lilmom: come back & let us know where you’re going! :)

Here you go thumper…Columbia ‘1905’ salad recipe: http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/recipe.asp?FeaturedItemID=2

The Columbia only uses Lee & Perrins brand Worcestershire sauce in the salad. The Columbia Restaurant buys more Lee & Perrins Worcestershire sauce than anybody else in world!

Have fun visiting the polydactyl puddies, Lilmom. :)

chocchipcookie, yes, I knew what you meant. Just joking a little, which is why I included the winking smiley! :)

lizard, that salad recipe looks so yummy!
