Summer concerts

D will be enjoying Fleetwood Mac and this [Free Press Summer Festival | June 1 + 2, 2013 | Eleanor Tinsley Park, Houston TX](http://fpsf.com/) - likely more will be added.

D turns 21 in May. Her brother got tickets for her birthday for her and a friend for the 2013 CMA (4 day) Festival in Nashville in June. She is thrilled !!
(…He will supply the housing and we buy the airfare. )

Recently saw Willie Nelson in concert and I’d had no idea what an impressive guitar player he is. His guitar is quite unique too! He’s an outstanding entertainer notwithstanding his advanced years but by the end of the concert I’d had enough when he started playing gospelly stuff. DH the (R&R) fan hated most of it though conceded the guitar playing was spectacular as is WN’s voice. The tour is ongoing I think.

It’s a classic rock summer for me. Fleetwood Mac at the Hollywood Bowl and the Rolling Stones at the Honda Center in May, then Outside Lands with Paul McCartney headlining in August. I’m also seeing the Killers in May. I still can’t believe I’m seeing the Stones and a Beatle within a few months of each other.

ETA Willie Nelson will also be at Outside Lands so I’m looking forward to him too. Along with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, the National, and Gary Clark Jr.

H & I went to Outsidelands in 2009 to see Pearl Jam. It was fun, but festivals are not very satifying when you wish you had the full concert experience. They are better when you have an open mind and get to hear bands you arent familiar with.
The worst thing about Outsidelands was that I had to subject myself to the band that had the stage before them in order to get a good seat. ::::::::::shudder:::::::::
But San Francisco was beautiful.

Love music in the open air. I envy my Ds tickets to Sasquatch, but maybe next year.
I need to have my TKR right away so I can have a summer!

July 3 - Stone Pony Outdoor Stage, Asbury Park, NJ: Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. Will be sitting in my beach chair on the AP boardwalk soaking it in…

My big “summer” concert will be the first weekend in October…3 days of free music in Golden Gate Park in SF at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. In past years I’ve seen Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Glen Hansard, Emmy Lou Harris, Nick Lowe, Patti Smith, Jeff Tweedy, Robert Plant, Earl Scruggs, and a host of other folks I loved already, and some I knew little about but now love…all free. It’s a great party paid for entirely by Warren Hellman a local investment banker/philanthropist and music enthusiast. He recently died but the concert will live on as he endowed it. What a great gift to the city of San Francisco.

Dayum!
[Bruce Springsteen Performs Classic Albums In Stockholm on JamBase](http://www.jambase.com/Articles/118542/Bruce-Springsteen-Performs-Classic-Albums-In-Stockholm)

saw Bruce perform Born To Run in order at Meadowlands in Sept 2009.

Omg
Just saw RNDM at a local tavern. Epic. Seat by the stage next to the drummers parents. Jeff Ament on bass. Richard Steverud on drums, Joesph Arthur on vocals & lead guitar.
I went because of Jeff Ament & I admit I was just a teensy disappointed Eddie Vedder didn’t get up on stage - but they were so good. I love seeing bar bands.;)

( & I grabbed a Citizen Dick Poster, it was on the floor, I think it fell off the wall- ← Matt Dillion’s band in Singles)

May 17 in Charlotte…Old Crow Medicine Show…Happy Mother’s Day to me…can’t wait.

Rush tomorrow night, so excited!! This will be my third time to see them (the last time in 1981). New Order in July at an outdoor pavilion, can’t wait for it! Might take S2 to see Legend of Zelda Symphony in August. I love going to see live music.

How did everyone’s summer concerts go?

Ours was last night - Maroon 5 with “special guest star” Kelly Clarkson. My sister in law actually pondered who was the bigger act - interesting thought…Maroon 5 was clearly the featured group.

Outdoor venue, packed 20,000+ people. Getting to the venue from the exit was brutal and parking was ridiculous! (a brisk 20 minute walk from parking lot to gates - really?!) Kelly was fabulous- girl can sing - strong, clear, bold voice! (I actually saw her in concert one other time…) Maroon 5 - Adam…! SO many great songs from current to songs from their first album - kudos to them for staying together as a group for the long haul. I questioned how his voice would be live - it was good and very entertaining - definitely an “on your feet and dancing” type of night - perfect!

So what concerts met, exceeded or disappointed your summer???

Our only summer concert isn’t until Sept. 21. We’re going to Farm Aid. :)

Our big concert was Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana.
H said it was the best concert ever.
Id put it in my top ten.
We both had a fantastic time at RNDM.( which would also be in my top 10.)
Im looking forward to my guitar instructor playing in my neighborhood with his band & today I am going to an instore session featuring Mike Mccready ( Pearl Jam) and musicians he has played with since jr high.
Debating whether or not to take my new pup. I havent technically met Eddie Vedder & it is in his neighborhood, plus Ive heard he can’t resist an adorable dog.
:o
Also looking forward to Bumbershoot Labor day weekend.

I saw Styx Sunday night at the NY state fair. We just so happened to be going to the fair that day and it was a free outdoor concert. Mostly not original members (though a couple of early ones - Tommy Shaw and James Young, Chuck Palozza played bass a couple of songs but not all). I used to listen to their albums with my dad so I was really excited when I found out they were playing. It was a really good concert, very entertaining.

^ saw Styx as well last week…pretty good show, better than I expected. Foreigner was also great…both shows in Newport, RI…very small venue…stage overlooking the harbor…

Only 3 shows this summer. Started the season with Patterson and the Downtown Rumblers. Followed that up with the National Symphony and Warren Haynes tribute to Jerry Garcia. Highlight of the summer was Phish in Tahoe on 7/31. They opened set 2 with an epic 37 minute Tweezer that’s getting tons of airplay on Jam On.

We had great summer concerts including both of D’s favorites. Saw The Killers with D2 in May, got D1 tix to see Fall Out Boy in June, then caught an intimate show with Panic! At The Disco with both girls and about 350 of our closest friends in August. Oh, and DH & I got to see Pat Benatar, then Adam Ant over the summer.

Looking forward to Glenn Tilbrook (of Squeeze fame) next month.

My big summer blast was seeing Dwight Yoakam again. Fantastic first row balcony seats in a small theater in Portsmouth, NH.
