Summer concerts?

So, who’ve you seen this summer?

My summer ended extremely well–last week I saw Frank Turner and Flogging Molly outdoors at Asbury Park–incredible concert–ended up on the edge of a mosh pit. Like Flogging Molly and love Frank Turner.

Last night I was thrilled to be at the last of Bruce’s three NJ Meadowlands concerts–epic! Still riding the high of that. Longest show he’s ever done in north America–tons of great moments.

You?

I saw Bruce last Thursday at the Meadowlands. Funny story. I ordered tickets for last Thursday. I was going with S17 and a friend of his who was leaving for college and the friend’s mom. We get to the stadium. I pull out the tickets and, oops! they were for yesterday! We wound up buying new seats and I sold the ones I had to a friend of a friend and I spent $12 less a ticket! because i didn’t pay the Ticketmaster fees.

The show was amazing! The last time I saw Bruce was in 1978 at Nassau Coliseum.

You?

Sounds like a great Springstein concert.
We saw Train a couple of weeks ago, and just saw Bonnie Raitt last Saturday. Bonnie Raitt put on a GREAT concert. At the Train concert, when they sang Marry Me, someone in the front row got engaged right then.

Someone got engaged at the Springsteen concert I was at as well. I may be old fashioned but I really think that a proposal should be private.

I saw Bob Dylan.

We had a fantastic music weekend last weekend here in Chicago - Billy Joel at Wrigley on Friday followed by Bruce Springsteen on Sunday at the United Center. I have seen both of them before and didn’t go, but that’s an excellent baby boomer two-fer.

Is anyone here on CC going to the Desert Trip in CA in the fall - the one with the Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Pink Floyd? Of those, I’ve seen the Who twice, McC three times and Dylan once. I’d be interested in the RS but no real interest in PF or Neil Young. The price tag is too steep for me. I wonder what the age range will be - mostly our age range?

^Not something I’d get to, though intriguing. I’ve seen The Who once and Dylan once (the sort of famous Night of the Hurricane concert at the Garden in 75). Don’t really care to see most of the rest–maybe Neil Young. Got over my McC crush 40 years ago, though it was intense when I was 16.

Coldplay at Soldier Field. My 3rd concert of theirs - am I a groupie yet? It was fantastic! I took a few videos during it and I can be seen watching them with a smile on my face EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I told my son afterwards as we were leaving, “the happiness and joy we just experienced in their? That’s what I hope that heaven is like.”

I also saw Of Mice and Men and Florence and The Machine. Another feel good night!

Coldplay last weekend at Jerry World in Dallas. @abasket totally agree. It was pure joy. I was with both my kiddos. This momma was in heaven!

Also saw Coldplay at Soldier Field- it was fantastic but horrible weather!

@leftrightleft - you must have been Saturday night - I couldn’t get tickets for Saturday so ended up there Sunday night - a blessing! (though the drive in Sunday was awful!)

I’ve been to a lot of concerts this summer, but they were all classical music.

The best concert so far was the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band 50th anniversary tour. But they’ve always been my favorite band and my daughter’s too. But, you know, she was a captive audience when she was little.

@Consolation --this thread is not genre-specific! :slight_smile:

Only Paul McCartney at Fenway this summer. Fingers crossed there will be another Solid Sound festival in 2017 at Mass MOCA put on by Wilco (Schmilco). It’s every other summer.

Billy Joel at Fenway Park–loved it. I would go to see The Who in a heartbeat, but my H wouldn’t go. Also went to the Boston Pops on Nantucket.

The highlight show of the summer for me was Sting and Peter Gabriel at the Hollywood Bowl. My first date with my husband was a Sting concert back in 1985, and Sting sounds every bit as good now. Peter Gabriel is a long time favorite, too. It was great to see them together.

Anybody see an act from the last decade?

I didn’t make it to any “real” concerts…but we did make it to many tribute bands. The fun part is they were all free “concert in the park” type events in neighboring cities. We enjoyed a picnic in the park and music. We saw “Queen”, “Beatles” , “Tom Petty”, “Bruce Springsteen”, and “Journey”.

It’s not a concert but we are going to see Jay Leno this weekend (the real Jay Leno).

Saw The National in July. Matt Berniger’s voice is so haunting. Saw the Last Shadow Puppets, Radiohead, Adele and Coldplay in August. August was a very good month. Radiohead was transcendent, best show I’ve seen all year. TLSP were a blast, crazy fun. Adele was a riot and her voice is just incredible. Coldplay always put on a great show regardless of venue.

Have a bunch more shows this fall. My friends are going to Desert Trip. I am very jealous.

@ClaremontMom tribute bands can be a ton of fun. I have friends in a U2 tribute who are damn good.

@trojanchick99 -A U2 as well as a Billy Joel tribute were also on our list but our schedule didn’t work out.
