Summer festivals 2026

Thank you for the feedback! My 14 year son just got accepted to Ascent violin and we are considering if we should go. They assigned students into violin A to D, do you know what that means? Understand you said solo performances are rare, how often do they do chamber performances? Also do they arrange programs/activities based on students’ age given that the age range is wide 13-30 said on their website. Thank you!

Gmomma, Congrats!

For Heifetz, I believe that everyone will get a letter: rejection, acceptance, or waisted.

Was your wind player in Wind Ensemble or Orchestra at Interlochen?

Wind ensemble. Feel free to message me re: Interlochen. He also ended up attending the academy there.

edited to add: you may not be able to send a PM if you are a new CC member. Let me know if that is the case and I can message you if you would like more information regarding Interlochen.

The letters refer to the studio they are assigned to, which is a group of teachers. If you go on the website, you can see which teachers that means. For example, Violin A is Stella Chen, Francesca dePasquale, and Rictor Noren. They will have at least one lesson with each teacher listed. How that gets divided depends on how long each one is there. Many teachers are only there a week.

Chamber performances were mostly just a concert for each group at the end, but if I remember correctly, one group played on an earlier concert midway through since a student was only attending for two weeks.

I am not sure how many organized activities there were – my kid and friends usually just did their own thing, going into town for treats. It’s a safe town. The minors are kept separately from the adults, though, at least in the dorms.

I am a new CC member. Could you message me?

Thank you! I’ve found this forum super helpful, especially for non-music parents! Besides Ascent, We just got accepted to Brevard high school orchestra, would love to hear more insights on these programs!

Thanks! I actually think he will pass on Heifetz this year. He recently told me he felt bullied last summer by one of the other kids and was kind of miserable. This is of course the first I am hearing of it -otherwise I would not have applied! Anyway if anyone is waiting for a Heifetz junior cello decision, there’s a spot opening up soon.

Has anyone heard from Bowdoin summer festival yet? Their website says that results usually go out the first week of March. Waiting for cello specifically…

Hi gmomma,

Sorry to hear about it. It is unfortunate that our kids are not always sharing information with us so we can help them to address problem early. When they become teenager, it is very hard to ask them to share anything!

Hope you can find a good alternative camp for your son!

Last year was similar - they said 1st week of March but I think it was the following week.

It was March 14 last year, end of day.

We received an acceptance for Bowdoin early this week for viola. Still too late in my opinion! Choices were made weeks ago.

BUTI Tanglewood results came out from several people that I know including for my kid

Still waiting to hear from Bowdoin for violin specifically. Has anyone received an acceptance for violin? Debating whether to reach out and ask for an update in light of deadlines for other programs.

My son got accepted by BUTI YAP (Young Artists Piano). Did anyone ever registered for both sessions, or this is unnecessary? Thanks

Would you choose Heifetz Junior or Green Mountain festival for a 14 yo violinist? It would be the first time for both. Thank you.

Same situation. Waiting for violin.

Just heard from Bowdoin this afternoon for violin.

Have anyone received the acceptance letter for Heifetz Senior (e.g. 16yo) yet?
