I will be a staff member at a Boy Scout Summer camp this summer and I was wondering if I shouldn’taccept my pay and make it volunteer hours instead. However, I do have plenty of volunteer hours already, I’m just wondring if this would stand out on a college app?

I’d take the money and call it paid work since you have already been volunteering

Since you have a lot of hours, have you considered applying for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award? If you want to participate in it this year, record all hours from March 14th 2012, to March 14th 2013. If you get 100 or more hrs, you can get a gold award. (Looks awesome on college apps, especially if you get it for more than once.)

I guess it’s all down to what you want. It would be self satisfying to earn some money over the summer, have a job experience, and have a leadership position, which can be used for college apps. Or you could just grab a couple of extra hours, for next year’s PVSA, if you want to reach 100+ hrs.

Good Luck!

I do have a job as a soccer ref and I make money most weekends from that.

Bump…
