acollegestudent, my mother always used to say she had a pterodactyl in her back yard growing up. We found a stuffed one somewhere and she loved that thing. She did live long enough to see the original JP, but not the other ones. She’d be all over this movie. My son is being very blase about it, but I know he still thinks dinos are cool.

I love going to the movies, anytime of year! DS and I went to see Tomorrowland while H and DD were at the Awesome Con a few weekends ago. The movie was good, but will not win any awards. Just the type of movie to get you away from real world things. I would like to see San Andreas just for the cheesiness of it all but not sure if I can talk anyone else into going. hmm. maybe I will go by myself?
Going to take the family to see Jurassic World this weekend. It’s the type of movie that needs to be seen on the big screen. I am definitely NOT a chick flick fan- I usually watch those at home once released- there is usually only one of those I’d like to see per year- if that. Hubby’s friends are always telling him he is a lucky man because my idea of a dinner and a movie date night is something that has lots of men and explosions and action… I LOVE explody and action adventure movies. I know this has been out a while but Kingsmen was a good movie but Samuel L. Jackson was so funny in it with his lispy voice acting as the bad guy mastermind.
I want to see the new Far from the Madding Crowd and then rewatch the old one with Julie Christie and Alam Bates (serious eye candy!).
I’m looking forward to seeing Spy and Jurassic World. I like the action adventure movies the older I get- they help me stay awake in the cool, dark, comfortable theaters! We don’t see many movies in the theater, but when we do I love the previews. Recently, S and I looked at each other and shook our heads at Antman. Lol.
Yes, did enjoy Kingsman–it is available for purchase at Costco and was one of the selections on the United playlist on several of my recent flights. It appears that Tim’s Vermeer is available free on YouTube if anyone is interested. It was fascinating to me and H plans to watch it now.

H was given The Martian as a bd present along with Packing for Mars by Mary Roach. (& The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Northwest)
He loved all of them, especially The Martian, so I had to find hopefully similar authors James ACorey & John Scalzi.
Its too bad that The Martian isnt coming out till late fall, it seems a natural for the summer.
Spy & Jurassic World (starring local boy, Chris Pratt) are both playing at the lcal theatre.
Maybe I will get H to go to one, although Id like to see Jurrassic World at Cinerama with the big screen.
I thought Kingsman was merely okay. The lispy stuff with Samuel Jackson was just kind of annoying, and not funny to me at all. Some raunchy scenes were pretty unnecessary, too.
One movie that we really enjoyed, was a SIFF (Seattle Intl Film Festival) film called the Wolfpack. It will be coming out in select theatres next week. Not a blockbuster, it was a documentary that looked like it was filmed with a home video camera. It’s a true story about a family of seven kids in the projects of NYC. The father is an alcoholic, abusive, paranoid jerk, who basically imprisons his entire family most of the time in the apartment, for more than a decade. There are no actors, but the actual family portrays the story, and it’s quite fascinating. The director met the kids on one of their escapes out of the apartment, and said it was like discovering a lost Amazon tribe in the middle of NYC.
I missed SIFF.
I can stream Steven Toblowskys movie, but we attended the concert at the Moore last year that Duff McKagan filmed for his documentary, & I forgot it was playing at the film festival.
Another gorgeous film starring Alan Bates & Julie Christie, is The Go- Between. We read it in book group then watched the film.

Bus, I’ve heard of that story. I want to see Jurassic World but was wondering why Steven Spielberg is not the director, does anybody know? I thought he was the director of the first Jurassic movie.
Dr. Google, Spielberg did the first two and he is executive producer of the new one. I don’t know why he stepped out, but I literally just read that he and the new director did converse often and some of the ideas you’ll see in the movie were his. If anyone interested in the movie has been following the website jurassicworld.com as if it’s a real theme park, with links to “live” cams, activities, menus, and much more, go check it out now. The marketing is priceless-it’s tells people “at the park” to get inside for safety because there’s been a breach, for example. And definitely check out the live cams.
I’ve seen a bunch of new movies lately. I love the movie experience, though I’m becoming a cranky old person. I can’t stand when I can see a phone screen (amazing how often that happens) and when people talk loudly. Get off my lawn!
My bar for movies is pretty low-- I like almost everything. So, either movies are getting worse or my standards are increasing, which would be odd:
-wanted to love PP2 but thought it was pretty bad. I love the Packers, Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick. Alas.
-I did love Mad Max though it was relentlessly loud and violent but the visuals were fabulous.
-Jurassic World tonight. Not very good. I lurve Chris Pratt but the franchise has just become a parody (like the irony of commercialism, which was slyly mocked in the first movie, has become the real thing now.) Pity.
I think I need to see non-blockbusters.
I liked Jurassic World. It was a fine way to spend a couple of hours. I don’t, however, require a lot from a movie. I don’t go to the movies very often and never watch movies at home so I’m usually happily surprised.
Has anyone mentioned ex machina? It’s been out for awhile, so I guess it’s not technically a summer movie, but it should still be in the theatres. Really good. Definitely worth watching. One of the few movies I actually saw twice. Haven’t seen anything that good in a long time.
I hope I get out and see a really good one this summer. I haven’t seen a lot of movies at the theatre lately, we usually are too busy. Even when some movie that we really want to see finally made it to the dollar theater we didn’t manage to go. Finally I rented the movie at Red box, figured I save 4 bucks for not going plus popcorn, then halfway through the movie, husband and I looked at each other wondering if we wanted to spend the rest of our Saturday watching war prisoners being tortured and we knew we couldn’t watch anymore. So I finally wasted 2 bucks.
Oh jeez, that is awful! I guess that wasn’t a bargain after all.
No, I might try again with the movie American Sniper from the Red box, at least I can pause and going to rest room. I want to see that movie really bad because it won’t quite a few awards. May be watching American sniper shooting the bad guys is not as bad as watching the bad guys torturing American soldiers.
