Anyone done Chataqua Institution summer orchestral program
or know anything about it?
Does anyone have insight in which would be preferable (for whatever reason) for piano, Kinhaven, Brevard or Interlochen?
Happy to chat via pm if you are interested in Kinhaven. I don’t know much about the other two. Others can give you insight. How old is the camper?
Kinhaven - my son did(clarinet) in 2019 - the program is good - very rustic. They take the cell phones though.

No but we looked at it last year - from memory a couple of the faculty we were interested in (but some of the same faulty were also at a different summer course so might have been there!) were teaching on line but that might have been a one off; however it was advertised that they would be doing that so easy to check
Thanks. They do still do virtual things with the iConnect program, but I’m trying to find out about the other program. It’s small.
And yes, they have faculty that overlaps with some other festivals, but this one is cello only.

Brevard Orchestral Studies gave us a decision back on 2/28. We had asked for a quick decision due to another deadline so not sure if everyone or every program got word.
Also they sent us to the website for the actual information and nothing was in the email.

We are also trying to get info on Green Mountain – so far the two people we talked to (not cello though) had negative experiences there. Could be teacher or instrument specific, though.
We heard from Interlochen several weeks ago – but I think it was considered an “early” notification. They are likely going to notify a bunch of others this week as those who were notified early had to accept by 3/1.
Did not apply to Brevard, so can’t help there.

We don’t know anyone who has attended Green Mountain. Did your 2 contacts have negative feedback re the music education or the social part of the camp?
Re: Green Mountain, the one said the level of playing for the participants was quite low. The other (violinist) said she just didn’t enjoy it or get much out of it. Take it with a grain of salt.

I have only heard great things about Green Mountain! Great faculty. But I will say every year is different at these festivals. My daughter went to EMF the last 2 summers - had a better experience first year than 2nd year.
