Summer Music Festivals 2025

Our daughter applied early admissions to Brevard and heard back a few weeks ago. She hasn’t heard from BUTI, Ascent, or Green Mountain yet.

Has anyone heard from BUTI yet? My student applied to the Young Artists Piano Program. Is this program easier to get into than any of the instrumental workshops or the Young Artists Orchestra?

Nothing yet for strings. A friend of my son’s heard for Jazz. Not sure about whether any of the programs is easier to get into over the YAO. I think they are all really competitive, so fingers crossed for everyone!

thank you!

It’s rolling. Sometimes they will also waitlist but then come out with a scholarship if someone else has they had offered money to has declined.

Does anyone know if rejections came out for Interlochen? Or do they wait until 3/1. I know acceptances came out last week.

Any woodwind applicants heard back from BUTI? I thought BUTI would send out and reject at the same time.

In 2022, D23 flute player, heard back from BUTI on February 23 and heard about the scholarship decision on the 28th. I think they sometimes delay the announcement for the alternate roster, as people are making decisions to attend. Have you tried reaching out to them? Admissions people are nice at music festivals, in our experience, if questions are polite. Musicians and their families are dealing with deadlines, decisions, they are used to it and try to help when they can. We especially experienced that with BUTI, EMF & NYO/NYO2 folks.

Thank you for sharing the experience.

Thank you. No, didn’t try reaching out. In my child’s case, we only applied to BUTI Tanglewood because the other programs didn’t fit his summer schedule. If he doesn’t get in, he will just do another activity that isn’t time sensitive in terms of commitment. Seems like the decisions are coming out later than they did in 2022!

Did your child attend BUTI last year?

My son attended a BUTI workshop last summer (Electro-Acoustic Composition) and he loved it. He made a ton of friends and really loved the free-range chicken aspect of the program (he chafed at Interlochen, which was highly scheduled and he found it infantilizing.) He is applying for strings this year. Last year BUTI announced around this same time, so hoping they do it in the next couple days!

We haven’t heard anything yet. Waiting on BUTI, Brevard, and Bowdoin. Good luck!

BUTI decision is out! Hope everyone got what they wanted.
My son is waitlisted for Strings Workshop and YAO, but he’s pleased he made it into the Cello Workshop. Still waiting on other programs!

Congratulations! I received email tonight from BUTI. My son got into woodwind quintet workshop and waitlist for oboe workshop. I have a question though: the oboe workshop is more competitive than woodwind quintet workshop, right?

Congratulations! To answer your question, the faculty at the buti oboe workshop are the best in the field. It’s run by the three longtime oboe section members of the BSO; not only are they all really kind and supportive they are insanely talented so yes the oboe workshop would be more competitive because it is a really special opportunity for young musicians. (Not all buti workshops involve Bso musicians so the oboe one is special.)
