Summer Program Big List- Data/Info - keep adding

anyone able to comment on the difference between impulse, nyu summer program and oklahoma city summer program?

This is my first time posting on any of the MT lists. My D and I are also interested in recommendations on summer programs. She has applied to OCU, NYU Steinhardt, Baldwin Wallace, Ithaca and Boston Conservatory. She is planning on applying to MT and some Vocal Performance programs in the fall. We got word today that she’s accepted into the OCU program. We completely blew through the MPulse deadline. So interested in whether anyone can compare the 5 programs she’s applied to. Thanks so much.

Does anyone how the BOCO or Baldwin Wallace Summer programs are??

Hi there. Is anyone familiar with the CCY summer program at Wesleyan U in Connecticut? My daughter applied and was accepted, but we haven’t heard much feedback about the program. She has a dance and MT background. Any info would be much appreciated!

Also, does anyone have experience with the MT summer programs at Walnut Hill in the Boston area or University of the Arts near Philly? Again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

S attended the Walnut Hill program and we thought it was excellent. People from the performing arts high school theatre program are active in the summer program so the quality is high. S later attended WHS for soph-sr year but the summer program can certainly stand on its own (and no WHS students are allowed to attend the summer program once enrolled in the high school, so there is no worry that ā€œknownā€ students will have better opportunities for casting).

I was wondering if it is still too late to apply for the summer MT program at syracuse? I know the deadline is in may but do you think the class is already full?

Also, the program was written up in Broadway World: [Musical Theatre University Announces its National Youth Summer Stock 2010/03/24](Musical Theatre University Announces its National Youth Summer Stock)
Ages 14-24 selected by audition.

Does anyone know anything/have experience with the Emerson summer program?

There’s also CYMC (Comox Valley Youth Music Centre)'s MT program in British Columbia, Canada. It’s a good alternative to an arts camp, considering it is JUST MT. They’ve had guests artists like Julia Murney in and they actually tour their production to a few different theatres in BC. They accept students from all over the world and it’s fairly inexpensive compared to others ($1600 for tour and for the camp costs). It’s a full month. You are cast by audition, but anyone can attend the program. My July is all booked up, but I’m thinking of going next year. There are still spots available, I believe.

Musical Theatre Track -
My daughter has done this and I can’t say enough great things about the program. The actors training was unlike anything she has ever had. It was an extremely intense schedule from 8 am to 10 pm everyday with Saturday Workshops and Sunday NYC shows. It truly gave her a sense of being in College studying towards a BFA. Those that want more info can PM me.

In response to Beentheredad"s post about The Art’s Edge, [The Arts Edge](http://www.theartsedge.com), this is a brand new program, unlike any other..the opportunity to actually work with people from ccm and Boco..I hear it may actually be Neil and Roger G., as well as many others, is insane. These are the people making the decisions at the auditions…who better to tell you what you need to do? And it can’t hurt to have time working with all these people..let’s gace it..if you are good the more they see you, the more they like you!

The Arts Edge looks fantastic…but there is no housing. For a Canadian student who would turn 18 on Aug. 20th, what are options? Does anyone know where in NYC it is? I couldn’t find these answers on the site. I’ll call on Monday.

This is a smaller program, definitely, but would be great for kids in Texas, especially ones who can’t afford to attend one of the bigger programs or who only want to spend a week or so away from home.

Dr. Michael McKelvey of St. Edwards University is mainly in charge of it. I am a student of his year-round Performers’ Workshop, and this years seniors will be attending Otterbein MT, Juilliard, University of the Arts Acting, NYU/Tisch Stella Adler, SMU, Evansville Acting, Christopher Newport, and Millikin MT next year. Last year the ones I know of ended up at Ithaca MT, both Webster MT and Acting, USC Acting, and UArts MT.

I know it’s quite smaller and lesser known in comparrison to those above, but I really do think it be a great experience for those who are close and can make it!

hi:

I’ve been getting a lot of PM’s asking for more information on the arts edge. the website is theartedege dot com. I think this website does not allow for posting webmail addresses. you can also call 617 823.6564 and speak to Halley.

Weekly private voice lessons. Tues/Thurs night workshops. Practical audition techniques. Last year’s guest artists included Jason Robert Brown, Alex Gemignani, Alan Campbell, Bill Bowers! All located in beautiful Missoula, Montana. An intense learning experience in a very nurturing environment. Slots are available. Tuition is $3400; Room & Board is $1350. Seth Rudetsky is confirmed for this summer - Alex Gemignani will be returning. Accepting students entering 9-12 and recent graduates seeking master class training. Check out nextstepprep.org. Let me know if you have questions! This is an amazing program.

I’m going to Perry Mansfield this summer. It sounds like a brilliant program (I have several friends who have been), and I’m extremely excited.

Our daughter attended Interlochen for 2 summers - expensive, especially when you add travel costs and uniform, but she had a great time. This summer thanks to this thread, she is attending CYMC in Vancouver Island - it sounded intriguing and the folks I spoke to on the phone were great, very enthusiastic and welcoming so we are very excited!
