Does anyone know any summer programs in Georgia that would look amazing on your college application, and would also help you to get some sort of experience associated with the medical field?
Try looking for programs in Georgia through mysummeradvisor.com Georgia Tech, Emory or the CDC may have some worthwhile programs.
In general, a summer program won’t make your application just as a line item. An experience that makes for a good essay, can be helpful. So, if you don’t see a program that you like - volunteer work or a job can also be a meaningful summer experience.
See if you can find something that is super important to you. The more you do that, the more your passion will show in your essays for college. Trying to game the system and guess what admins want to see, is not the way to find your passion or to fill your heart and application with true excitement and enthusiasm.
Genuine enthusiasm, conviction, and good writing, that will win the day.
Truthfully, you can write about athletic shoes, and get into an Ivy. I’ve seen that done. You can write about anything, and written well enough, with conviction, that can often be more important than the subject matter.
Thank you so much for your advice. It was very helpful to me.
@Dustyfeathers dusty should it match the major? topic you will discuss in essays/activities…?
Are you asking whether your essay topic should match your major?
Not necessarily. If it does, that’s okay. If it doesn’t I think that’s okay too unless you’re applying for a direct-entry program and you want to show some expertise in that area.
Most colleges know that students won’t pick their majors for awhile. And most students coming in as X major will end up as ABC or even D major that they’ve only just discovered.
@Dustyfeathers yes… you know for example stanford has SEPERATE ESSAY about activity. so i think writing a personal essay about activity that is already mentioned in activity section is not much fruitful (for stanford application) , how do you think?
I really couldn’t tell you.
