So, spring and summer weather is upon us. Longer days, more - or less outdoor activity, depending on your region - but a change from the last 6 months.
What is something you are going to allow yourself to partake, indulge, be part of this season to put an “!” on life’s simple pleasures?
Iced coffee at the ready in the refrig?
Weekend Breakfast on the patio?
Less sleep, more fun?
Stay in the AC and binge a series?
Once a week trip to the ice cream stand??
For me, less sleep for more fun is in place. I don’t want to come inside till 9 or later and wow, outside is awesome at 6:30am!
I also have a new place to sit in the evening with a pretty view and evening nature and that comfy, shady bench is going to be my reading spot for 30 mins as many nights as I can!
Will you embrace a little change for a lot of gain??

Summers in Maine are glorious, and I’m going to try to get outside for at least a few minutes every day. We’ll be going up to our cabin next weekend and I’m hoping for quite a few times through October. I also want to take my son to the beach (state park) near his apartment.

I have a 3 day Cape Cod work trip that I’m extending 4 more days to relax with my wife.
I’m also going to sneak in 9 holes of golf after work at least once a week this summer.

In general I hate summers - way too hot!!! But it’s not so bad yet. So this time of year on Sundays, we go to subway for dinner and take it to the patio outside the train station for dinner. (We only get one train/day each direction that come in the middle of the night so it’s deserted then. )
Winter it’s too cold. Summer it’s too hot. But spring and fall it’s a really nice way to have dinner before the work week begins

Not really summer here in San Diego yet with the May gray at our house near the coast. We did have some sun yesterday and took a lovely walk to the beach. We are going to the beach tonight to see the bioluminescence.

It’s summer year-round for us. No changes other than looking forward to a few glorious months at the cabin in ME and then a few glorious months at our golf resort in AZ. We do seem to eat more ice cream in Maine, though, so I guess I’m looking forward to that.

I love summer here so much I really hate leaving town in the summer.
I am traveling on the 3 day weekend coming up , but when I return the local outdoor concerts start at the lake (4 night/week), the kayaks at the nearby lake will be available for rent and outdoor yoga will start! Can’t wait.

Living’s more fine here in April/May than the hot humid summer so I’ve already been spending more time in my favorite place - my screened porch. The dog and I sit out there until well after dark. But I do only eat ice cream in the summer months so that will be my main indulgence. Moose Tracks and Cookie Dough (Mayfield brand) are my usuals at home and then finding great local ice cream shops when traveling.

Another beautiful morning here. H and I walked to glider port and had a great view of Alicia Keyes Razor House.

Is that blueberry ice cream? I remember having wonderful blueberry ice cream in Maine, at a lobster pound (Thurston’s).

You can get lobster ice cream in Bar Harbor. I’ve never tried it.

My parents took their beach house off the summer rental market for the first time in about 20 years. I went back to work over a year ago, and due to the nature of my job, I work every Saturday, but am off Sun-Mon. Sometimes it stinks working Saturdays but I am actually glad this summer b/c it means I can go down every Sat night and come back early Tues morning (2 hr drive each way). I will miss all the horrible weekender “beach traffic” down and back since most people travel Fri night/Sat morn and return Sunday evenings. Since Dh works from home, he will occasionally come with me and just work from there on Mondays.
Until it gets hot and humid, I will enjoy mornings and evenings on my porch at home, just like I am right now!
My other “simple pleasure” will be enjoying the fruits of Dh’s labor in his vegetable garden. So looking forward to tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc.

This sounds like you are grabbing the joy of summer and making it work! Sounds like a great plan.
I read a lot in the non-gardening months (just finished book #28 for 2024, some of them audiobooks). Yesterday was my first day reading in a shady corner of the backyard - always a treat.
This week I am rejoicing at the iris blooms in the front yard, a colorful opening for the summer gardening season.

We got some to share when we were in Bar Harbor ten years ago. Just to tell people back home we’d eaten it. I thought it was ok. I think one of my kids liked it and the other 2 weren’t impressed. But I recently told someone I know who’s going there “you have to try the lobster ice cream!”

I’m looking forward to spending my time at the lake this summer…right at the end of my road (4 houses away). It’s gorgeous, peaceful and just a great place to relax.
