SUNY at Binghamton Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Accepted at SOM. Accepted to Smeal, as well. Many deferred from daughter’s school. Appears the ones accepted from school submitted test scores. For the students deferred, please hang in there. I heard from many that Bing does reverse that deferred status to an acceptance, more than any other school. Best of luck to all .

Huge congratulations! Did she give test scores?

Yes, she did. ACT 34.

So it’s the score thing that they are looking for particularly with SOM. I think they got a crazy amount of applications and the only way to get through them all was to look for top scores and defer those which required more holistic review because test scores were not provided. I heard this from the guidance counselor. Which is totally understandable. This has given my son time to really think about what he wants and he feels that SOM was a bit too far and remote for him. He has other options which are ranked higher for finance so we will probably go with the one with the strongest program.

If I am not mistaken, I do believe Smeal is ranked higher .

Yes they are.

If I was able to afford it , I would send my daughter to Penn State. What a college experience . I feel as though I am not doing her justice, but as the sole provider, it just doesn’t work.

We actually got a sizable scholarship to another school so we might be leaning there. We have to all do what’s economical for our situation. There was a time where I would have taken on significant debt to send my kids to college but realized that it just doesn’t work for us anymore.

Surprised to hear about the deferrals especially when the students are getting into higher ranked schools. It could also be about yield rate perhaps. They know that some students won’t come because they will have better options. So rather than admitting and having such students not accept, they just defer them keeping their yield rate at a desirable level?
Congratulations to all those who got in!

Admissions must be overwhelmed with applications and I’m sure they are doing their best to build the best class possible. I’m happy for everyone who got in and am sending best wishes for the deferrals out there. For those denied, love the school that loves you back! Everything happens for a reason and everyone lands where they are meant to be.

For what it’s worth, if you’re referring to US News undergraduate business school rankings, I’d take them with a grain of salt. Their ratings process does not look at any of the student/class stats. It’s simply the results of a survey sent to “senior faculty and administrators “ of 300+ accredited business programs. Outside of the top 10-15 schools, it’s not much more than names of large schools with some name recognition. The response rate for these surveys are notoriously low.

I hope you find the best match for your son or daughter!

Have all EA applicants heard a decision at this point? Anyone still waiting?

We went to visit today and the Admissions Director we had said that all EA decisions were out.

Smart! I manage a public college career center and the students from my school get great results if they want it and use the resources. The only way we consider private is if we can do it with no debt otherwise, my son knows in the long run it isn’t worth it. I know students working at top companies from my school making six figures some years out who paid about 30k for 4 years ( commuter school)

This is what it’s all about! You just need to work hard and the payoff will come. I’m so happy your boy got in, it’s a great university!

Got accepted on 8th November but no merit so far. Anyone heard anything about merit?

My daughter was accepted in early December and notified about merit a week or so later. Are you in state? We are OOS - as I understand it, Bing distributes the majority of merit to OOS students.

No, i am an international student. I asked my admissions officer and I know there is some merit for me but haven’t heard about which amount it is.

Daughter received acceptance tonight (RD) but no merit included in letter. Hoping there will be some sent in a future communication.
