Where did you receive the merit info? Status checker or the BU Brain section? Somewhere else?

merit came in an an email and snail mail. I think the paper mail came first a week or so after acceptance.

First as an email, then a letter via snail mail a week or two later.

It’s only been a week since she received her acceptance. Guess I’ll have to be more patient…

It came as an email first, about a week after he was admitted, and then it came in the regular mail a few days after that.

Found out about merit along with the acceptance, but I understand many hear thereafter.

No merit received. Bad

I was not aware that for engineering, you need to declare they type of engineering you wish to pursue when applying. Is that correct for Watson?

Did anyone who got deferred in early action got accepted?

Still waiting. They said by April 1st.

I was told by my son’s college counselor that no one was rejected from EA, they were just deferred to General Admissions. He said it will be very difficult to get in GA, if not impossible. I’m sorry!

That is sad…Thanks for the update.

What did you/your daughter think of Bing?

That’s terrible. Daughter deferred now from both Bing and Stonybrook and we were certain she would get in! Son was accepted from wait at Bing from wait list a few years ago.

Daughter deferred at Bing but accepted to SB. Son was wait-listed at SB in 2014 and got admitted in April

I am sad to say that she did not like it. We both thought the visit would ā€œseal the dealā€ so to speak and came away disappointed. Our tour guide was actually an OOS student from the town next door. I thought that would be great and offer perspective but it didn’t turn out that way. My daughter did not like the guide at all. As for the actual campus, she found it to be too spread out and she just didn’t feel the community vibe she was hoping for. The freshman dorm we saw was nice so no issue there (Hinman - so not even one of the ā€œnicerā€ ones). So the others were probably even better.

The cafeteria we saw was very nice and there was a decent sized food court as well. The library was one of the most depressing buildings I’ve ever seen. We walked through the engineering building and it looked modern and well equipped. The admissions center was a nice new building.

Since the university is newer (1940s) I think that much of what she missed was simply lack of character. I don’t know how else to explain it. We do also live 10 miles from NYC and I think this visit helped her realize she needs a more urban environment.

That said I can see why some kids would love it. Lots of open spaces, the buildings are well equipped, food choices etc. it is just not for her.

When she did not even want to buy a sweatshirt I knew the school was off the list. We have a lot of sweatshirts from college visits. lol. She had a bit of a sweatshirt problem!

Luckily she has some other great choices. So sorry for the lackluster review :sob:

Invited to the honors program, SOM

Congratulations! If you don’t mind me asking, which program? My daughter also was admitted to the EY Student Leaders Program. We’re OOS, so didn’t even know it existed and were pleasantly surprised to receive the offer. Anyone have any insights to the program? Reading about it, it appears to be a fantastic opportunity, but any real world experience would be helpful for her decision.

How did you find out about acceptance to honors program? Through portal or regular mail?
