Loved it!

Going tonight…have heard it was great!!

We are heading off for the 3:30 show and looking forward to it!

Saw it last week and I am not a big bang em up movie person, but really liked it. It was well done.

I guess I’m the only one who didn’t love it. I wanted to, I just didn’t.

Really want to see it. Big Fan of JJ Abram’s work. One question…is it scary like a horror flick?

Not exactly scary like a horror flick…just good summer movie fun, IMO. More like a cross between ET/Close Encounters/Goonies. I loved it!

^Good. I was hoping that was the case. Can’t wait to see it!

I am one of the few who hated this movie! Based on what I read, I thought it would be great (“best summer movie in several summers!” etc.) Went with H and 2 teen boys; they all loved it. So I guess it’s just me! Won’t put all my “critique” in a post; don’t want to be a spoil sport for others. :)

^Oh go ahead and be mean!

I wonder if I’ll not get references because I never saw the Goonies. Don’t know why since I’ve seen just about every other sci fi or fantasy movie out there.

Just got back…very entertaining and great fun. Definitely reminds one of ET. Elle Fanning is really good!

Husband also referred to it as having Goonies influences. We see just about every sci fi movie that comes out, so my standards are not too high in regards to these films. Not looking for Oscar worth performances or screenplay. Just some good clean fun. As long as there are no decapitations, or at least surprise ones, I’m okay with it.

I’m not sure if I should go see this. is this more scifi or horror/scary?

ET meets Close Encounters meets Lost…thought it was really cute but I could picture JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg arguing:

JJ: but the black monster has to be violent and mean!!!..and the ominous sound effects have to have a clicking premonitional noise…

Steven: No…the kids have to save the day and somehow tame the monster; and the monster has to turn out to be “good”…

my husband thought the kid who played Joe Lamb looked like a young ET Drew Barrymore if he was a girl…lol

ilikepizza, it’s more of a sci/fi movie than horror/scary. It’s not a slasher movie.

DH and I saw Super 8 last night. We both really liked it. Reminded me of all the movies previously mentioned with a little bit of “Stand by Me” thrown in. Loved the kids.
Loved some of the lines, the music, the 70’s town. I’m going to be saying “that was mint” for days! I think I’ll go over to the dieting for dummies thread so I can say “I haven’t leaned up yet”

Those of you planning to go…do get up and leave at the end of the movie…watch the credits.

^^Umm, do NOT get up at the end of the movie. You want to see what they show after the end.

So true. It really was a good combination of all those movies we enjoyed so many years ago. I’m going to have to go back and see it again, because H said he saw a Chevy Nova, which was his first car and the car we shared for years when we were first married.

Loved it. Not only because the music is the soundtrack to my middle school years, but that was a plus. I was expecting something else, something more Cloverfield-y, but was really pleasantly surprised. I chuckled frequently, shed a tear more than once, and jumped at some startling (but not gory) surprises.

I just saw this movie last week and enjoyed it. I like movies that require at least a little critical thinking from the viewer, and not have everything handed to them on a plate.

However, I disliked the ending. I think everything wrapped up too quickly and too simply.

To me the movie had something of a Disney feel to it. A small group of kids outwitting the adults and having big adventures as they get out of tight spots are common Disney plot devices. If nothing else, I liked it just to relive the 1970’s styles and technology.
