Super Bowl

Brady did not find Foles and shake his hand. That is confirmed and is a bad move by Brady. I don’t care how chaotic it was. It’s what you do. Wentz is more consistent- but it remains to be seen how his knee heals up. I want them both!

It sounds as though Brady always shakes the opposing QB’s hand-when he is the winning quarterback.

Well, he is 0-3 vs. NFC East teams. :slight_smile:

When was the last time a team had the #1 and #4 picks in the same draft? Ever? This could be two franchise-level players in one draft. <<

the closest I can remember was 2000 when Washington had the # 2 and 3 pick and chose Lavar Arrington and Chris Samuels. they were solid but not superstars. Cleveland picked Courtney Brown #1 – total bust.

@Nrdsb4

he did beat the Andy Reid Eagles a few years ago so that makes it 1-3. i guess Eli wasn’t in the building for that one.

Foles is under contract for one more year. He is pretty much the highest paid backup in the league (although the Eagles got their money’s worth!) but Wentz is on his rookie contract, so together they are very affordable.

I don’t see why Philly wouldn’t keep them both, although I would guess they will try to renegotiate Foles’ deal to try to bring his cap number down ($7.4 mil next season for a backup) and maybe extend him. Foles’ cap number for next year is actually higher than Wentz’s!

Wentz’ rookie deal has two seasons to go at a very reasonable cap hit of around $7-8mil per year, together the two of them are only $15mil or so against the cap.

Compare that to Joe “I’m Elite” Flacco, who by himself is almost $25mil against the cap next season. I’d rather either one of the Eagle’s qbs over Flacco.

Hmm. According to overthecap.com (great site if you are into this stuff) the Eagles are currently $9mil over the expected cap for next year.

They are going to have to restructure a lot of people and kick the can down the road, or make some tough decisions and cut some major players. Foles may become a cap casualty unless he takes a pay cut, if it seems like Wentz will be back by then. The Eagles have a ton of high-priced players.

I was unaware of the Eagles cap situation, but that info makes my next point. With the lack of good quarterbacks in the league, if the Eagles get offered a 1st rounder for Foles, or a 2nd and 3rd, like allegedly the Browns offered the Bengals for McCarron, then they should take it.

I was so happy that the Eagles won. 4 of my grandchildren live outside of Philadelphia and there was great joy at their house.

Jimmy Garoppolo made a bit of money out of the game last night. He actually came away with more than Tom Brady will.

@Wien2NC, got it.

Not sure anyone will offer up a 1st round pick, or even a 2nd, on the basis of 2 solid playoff games. He’s been pretty mediocre the last 4 years, including the regular season this year.

As soon as teams figure out his version of the RPO he may go right back to mediocre again. If he goes to a team that doesn’t run the RPO, can he be successful?

I came on here specifically to see if there was talk of Brady’s poor sportsmanship. Why does Cam Newton get excoriated and Brady get a pass?

Because Newton had a meltdown in front of the cameras at the press conference and acted like a petulant child, for all to see, and then doubled down a few days later when he could have apologized and been forgiven for not handling the emotion of the moment well, but instead just dug his hole even deeper.

And then there was the whole “it’s funny to hear a female talk about routes” fiasco.

Brady faced the music, gave credit to the Eagles, and answered all the questions without throwing a fit or throwing anybody under the bus.

Should he have chased down Foles and shaken his hand? Sure, unless there were circumstances that prevented it. But that doesn’t compare IMO to the steaming pile that was Newton’s post-game press conference.

Now you’re coming around to my point earlier. Foles has had “meh” career. However, I admit, it’s better than mine. :wink:

Anyway, Foles is relatively cheap, he’s a Super Bowl MVP and at least 6 teams need QB’s. Would I give up a 1st or 2nd rounder? No way, but some yutz GM like Daniel Snyder may. The Browns, ya I know, were supposedly willing to give up a 2 and a 3 for AJ McCarron. AJ McCarron?

00:35-00:55 Yup. :slight_smile:

Wanted to weight in about Giselle. I’ve been hearing people picking apart what she said to her kids. First of all, English is not her first language so couldn’t we give her a bit of a break for how she phrased things. Secondly, it was reported that when she was leaving the venue, that she took the time to address every Eagles player she saw to congratulate them. She is by far, the most recognized football wife and the fact is that she seemed very gracious.

This picking apart every single thing and way a celebrity phrases things is s pet peeve of mine. I am positive that I say things wrong. The difference is that I’m not famous

So true. That’s what I was trying to say upthread. All signs point to Gisele handling the situation with such grace. How we even know what she said to her children confuses me. She apparently used the loss as a teachable moment and a way to comfort them since they were upset and crying. Does a mom have to make sure every word out of of her mouth to her children measure up to social media’s standards? No matter what she said it would have been dissected by the masses.

She congratulated every Eagles player that she came into contact with after the game. She put out a beautiful tweet (in two languages) congratulating the both teams. She came across likable and gracious.

Let’s stop hating for the sake of hating.

I love how pointing out bad behavior by adults is now considered “hating.” Really? I find some of this hypocritical when we know that posters have jumped all over these types of behaviors when brought up in threads by parents and/or students. Look at any thread that is about cheating or other bad behavior by students.

Here is her comment, “Just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes.” They didn’t “let” the Eagles win. Maybe that line of thinking is why Tom thinks it is OK to skulk off the field without shaking hands with Foles? Though I guess her responses are better than what she said after they lost to the Giants;)

I think she could have phrased it better, but I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt- I think she was just trying to communicate that you can’t win 'em all, you have to let others have their moment, and that she is (and they should be) still proud of him for all of his hard work and overall success.

This is being called BAD BEHAVIOR?? Seriously?

The woman was trying to console 2 crying little children while people stuck microphones in cameras in their faces.

I’m sure they will have other talks about it in the privacy of their own home.
