Brady was caught in Deflategate in his late 30s. And was hanging out with questionable people in the last two years, too. Sorry, don’t think you can chalk his “jerk” behavior up to youth.
I don’t like TB either. I think he has very questionable ethics and a huge dose of arrogance.
However, there is no denying that he has a very strong work ethic, is insanely talented, intelligent, and never gives up, not ever. He probably is one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game. Without him, the Patriots would not be the team that they are. JMO.
I don’t see anyone beating the Patriots. They come home with yet another ring.
@intparent , I am not a New England or Brady fan but not sure it is fair to talk about “hanging out with questionable people” without some facts.
I’m sorry, but we have rules about turning threads political.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Yes, be careful. I did delete a few posts.
I am not a football fan. I like Green Bay because they are owned by their city, rather than by some obnoxious billionaire. I like the Steelers because for some reason they just seem like a “real” team.
I’m a New Englander, born and bred. I detest Tom Brady. My H, a Michigander born and bred who played football in HS is a huge fan of Belichek and Brady.
The NFL didn’t pay much attention to the phone until the junk science in the Wells report started falling apart. The league didn’t even want the actual phone, they are on record as saying this.
Brady, being a privacy-conscious high-profile individual, regularly deletes the texts and emails off of his phone, and regularly gets new phones. He did turn over a list of every number called and texted during the period in question, with an offer to identify the individuals. His agent even identified the people on the list who were connected with the NFL, at which point the league could have asked to see their phones, which they declined to do. The league shifted its focus to the phone because after spending $5mil to verify that PV=nRT, the Ideal Gas Law, their case was a joke. At this point the case had nothing to do with deflated balls any more, it was about the league’s ability to impose whatever discipline they want on whoever they want for whatever reason they want, regardless if the reasons are even correct. And sadly (IMO) the league won, although keep in mind 2 out the 4 judges found the league’s behavior so egregious they were willing to overturn a collectively-bargained arbitration result, which is an incredibly difficult thing to do.
Brady had another reason for not turning over his phone - as a prominent. high visibility member of the union, he did not want the league using him as a precedent to forcing players to turn over their personal property during an investigation when they have no legal right to it.
There’s some Steeler fans on here, well the Steelers had their own deflategate incident: [The Steelers cheat too!](The Pittsburgh Steelers Complete Cheating History - Your Team Cheats - The Definitive Guide to NFL Cheating)
Interesting there was no million-dollar investigation in this case. Or punishment for the other team tampering with the ball (it is against the rules to check the air pressure of a ball during the game). I wonder why? Hmm.
As for Spygate, if you think this was a serious thing, then you have your head in the sand. It wasn’t illegal to tape signals, it still isn’t illegal to tape signals, the only restriction is on where the camera is. Filming from the sidelines was not prohibited until a league memo sent in 2006 - and, technically this rule cannot be changed via memo, it requires a unanimous vote of all 32 teams. So Belichick’s big crime was following the actual rules, and in the process crossing Goodell: [Analysis of Spygate](What is Spygate? A Definitive Guide - Your Team Cheats - The Definitive Guide to NFL Cheating)
Bill Cowher, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Shanahan all said they tried to steal signals, and that everybody did it. Goodell, before the 2007 Super Bowl, said that any coach who did not expect signals to be stolen was “stupid.”. So if you are going to get your shorts in a wad because the Patriots disobeyed a memo and put a camera in the wrong place, I don’t know what to tell you.
Spend some time on this site, and then tell me how the Patriots are such horrible cheaters compared to everyone else: http://yourteamcheats.com/
Go Pats! B-)
I know things are different today, but it doesn’t have to be that way (the arrogance and entitlement). Roger Staubach is one of the finest human beings on the planet.
Pats fans are insufferable. %-(
Willing to believe anything or buy any story. All relies on Brady and his agent. Laughable. Brady was suspended for 4 games, the team was fined $1,000,000 and the team forfeited a 1st round draft pick. And all for nothing. :-j
And if I had a dollar for every Pats fan that posted the “yourteamcheats” link, then I’d be millionaire several times over. %-(
This is a circular argument. Like arguing about politics or religion. I’m out.
It sure would be great for Vikings fans to have the home field advantage if they make it to the Super Bowl! I’ve never been in their current stadium. It opened around the time I moved out of MN. Vikings fans are still delirious today. I haven’t seen thus much purple in my FB feed since Prince died.
So you’re a 49ers fan? You’re welcome for Garappolo. The Patriots are going to regret that trade, I fear.
Does that somehow make it invalid? The 49ers were caught cheating on the salary cap and fined, this directly leads to a competitive advantage. Jerry Rice admitted on TV that he illegally used stickum to make catching balls easier. How many of his records are tainted?
No team is innocent. Haters gonna hate though.
I have friends who are Vikes fans and others who are Saints fans. I can’t root for the Vikings – as a Packer fan, I just can’t, even moreso because they knocked out our QB and derailed a promising season – but i’m happy that my friends are happy.
As for the Saints… ouch. If he just stands there and wraps up the receiver, the game is over. Instead he puts his head down – a big no-no, as you want to see what you’re. hitting – and completely whiffs. Terrible. And then he takes out the only teammate who might have been able to catch the guy and make the tackle. I feel badly for those friends. Ugh.
But yes, there were so many bad calls against Tennessee and in favor of the Patriots – some of which stopped Tennessee drives or prolonged NE drives – and they have won enough for now, so i’m on the Anyone But NE bandwagon.
I’m back. :)) A few things I have to add. Many apologies.
I hate the Dodgers too and they haven’t won squatola since 1988. And the Cavs too.
The 49ers were a dumpster fire after Harbaugh left, so yes, thank you for Jimmy G. We love him here. We call him Jimmy Geezus. ![]()
I forgot to add that the “yourteamcheats” website was created by an oversensitive Pats fan. Go figure. What are the odds of that happening? The rankings are completely arbitrary. A Pats fan’s opinion. Look who ranks at or near the top. Their biggest rivals. And the Patriots transgressions are woefully out of date.

Only the Patriots lost $1,000,000, a 1st round pick and their starting QB for 4 games. That’s a BIG penalty for a “nothing burger.” ![]()
Excusing cheating by stating others cheat sounds like Kindergarten logic. “But mom, he dd it, too! Not fair!”
Here’s a thought experiment: just imagine what it would’ve been be like if the Vikings make it to the Super Bowl held in Minneapolis AND if Prince then did the halftime show? (I still say his halftime show in Miami was the best SB halftime show ever.)
I’m a current resident of the state of Michigan and I really dislike (loathe?) Tom Brady.
We got to watch the last Super Bowl on a cruise ship. We wore our Patriot gear and were surrounded by a sea of Atlanta fans. That was a good day.
Football really can bring out loyalty - either college or NFL!
I’ll wait another week to see how things fall before deciding who I would root for though it would not be the Patriots for sure. But also as a Packers fan it’s a LITTLE tough to root for the Vikings but they seemed to have earned their spot fo far.
And talking about awesome football players and human beings…did you hear the scoop that Aaron Rodgers is dating Danika Patrick!? :x
He has dated a variety of women since he broke his engagement to Olivia Munn. Who knows how long Danica will last. I think Aaron is a great quarterback. I’m less convinced about him as a human being. I am always skeptical of people who are totally estranged from their entire family.
Rooting for the Eagles. it’s such a shame that Carson Wentz is missing the post-season. Foles just isn’t a reliable QB.
Patriots are going back to the superbowl. Jaguars should be a cake walk.
@alwaysamom Foles has experience, wouldn’t downplay him or his potential.
