Superbowl and Madonna

I also watched the game with a bunch of 17-year-old boys, and their reaction was the same as SJRcalderone described. They pretty much thought Madonna was old and gross, and that she wasn’t a very good dancer. Every time she had a sexy move with a young dancer (probably very close to their age), it made them uncomfortable and there was a collective EEWWW…probably not what Madonna would have anticipated. They laughed at the cheerleader part, thought it was ridiculous.

On the other hand, I can appreciate how good Madonna looks for her age, but it probably has cost her millions of dollars to keep it up. She did look older and more tentative in some of the numbers; maybe it was the boots? It looked as if she just kind of tried to strut around and watch all of the different acts performing during this show while she lip-synched. Kind of sad that her music and her performances haven’t evolved at all, and she just can’t keep up like she use to.

As to the show itself, I thought it was a hot mess of a spectacle. Egyptian queen, Roman gladiators, circus, cheerleaders, church choir, fashion, marching band, etc. All of that, plus all the other performers who outshone Madonna, in my opinion. I did like Ceelo Green as the drum major.

Just for the record, I used to kind of like Madonna back in the 80’s boy toy days, haven’t thought about her music for over 20 years, and I have no interest in any of the other singers that were performing. I’m not a hater; just thought it was kind of sad.

I had and still don’t have ANY idea who those other people were on stage and my teenagers were not around to tell me :).

The Giants were only SLIGHTLY more lucky than the Pat’s last night and that is why they won. The Pat’s were equally as lucky as the Giants a couple weeks ago when they both won conference titles…either way, it was a good game, WAY better than the Bears/Pat’s blowout many years ago.

When I saw Tom Coughlin interviewed after the game on ESPN, he said he had no problem with Bradshaw’s touchdown. He was concerned with what could go wrong with a field goal attempt (Remember the Ravens 2 weeks ago). Also recall that the Giants had 2 fumbles they were fortunate to recover, so anything could’ve happened the longer the Giants held possession.

As a Jets fan who hasn’t seen her team in the Super Bowl since she was a kid, I can’t believe how many times my 2 sons, who are Giants fans, have seen their team not only in the Super Bowl but as champions. As a Jets fan, you can guess who I was rooting for.

I felt for you Jets fans with this one, but I kinda figured I knew which way you’d likely be rooting. As a Mets fan, we’ve been there with Phillies/Yankees WS.

Some amount of luck always is involved, but the Giants were better.

I agree with Hayden (?) that I would have gone for the TD, just not so quickly. Too much time left for Brady to “get lucky.”

And, yeah, Giselle needs to shut it!

I was so relieved that New England didn’t mount a comeback.

Not that I care in the least who won the SuperCup. But I was praying for Bradshaw’s wife and kids if he has any. I hate it when a team loses 'cause someone messes up big time. Then he goes home and beats his wife and kids, gets death threats, is hounded and treated like crap, and ends up a homeless alcoholic, or some equivalent. (It’s bad enough that he’ll have premature dementia and his wife will be caring for him in very premature old age.)

So goodie for the New Jersey Jumbos!

(What is a M.I.A.? Isn’t that the airport code for Miami? I thought the game was in Indianapolis. Or was it a POW thing?)

I also was hoping that Bradshaw wouldn’t have cost the Giants the game. Did you see the pregame interview with the guy who defended the Giants player who made the great catch against his helmet? He was so despondent about it, even today.

Oh, and I also missed the MIA finger. Ds2’s group jumped in the hot tub during half time. Why watch a 53yo prance around in a granny cheerleader outfit when they hot-tub with 16yo hotties in bikinis? ;)

Garland: I’m also a Mets fan, but, altho I hate the Yankees, I don’t have a problem with rooting for the Giants (except for when they play the J-E-T-S)

As bizarre as this seems, the odds makers are already picking a winner for next year’s superbowl: the Patriots. The Giants aren’t even expected to win their division.

Shellfell–Yeah, I hate the Yankees, but have nothing against the Jets, with the playing-Giants exception. I’d like to see the J-E-T-S do well, as I can sympathize, because when the Mets torture me, at least I’ve had enough good times with the G-men to salve the pain–Jets/Mets has been rough lately.

The Jets haven’t tortured me as much lately as the Mets have, and unfortunately for both of us, it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon.

A dissapointed pats fan here. As a person who endured a bit of taunting on FB until I told them to shut it, (I am not an obnoxious fan, the most I would post is go Pats), I can understand how Giselle felt. I was suprised how dissapointed I was as I dont follow football ardently. So she must have felt bad for Tom and then for someone to ungracefully heckle her. From what I heard, she made her comments to her friends and handlers. I know there are sore losers but how about sore winners. People need to have more class.
BTW No Giselle fan here either, her comments on breastfeeding made me crazy too!

Giselle should have not criticized the team, but, she was right.

I hope they sit Gisele next to Mrs. Welker and Mrs. Hernandez at the next Pats wives function.

I agree that several of those passes were catchable (although with a higher degree of difficulty than any of us can imagine) and that breastfeeding is good. I also think there are sore winners and that, perhaps, she meant her comments for her entourage. However, she is a celebrity by her own choice and there are cameras/recorders everywhere, so she should chose her words more carefully.

People should not be so soft and pro football players do not need protection. They make millions. Catch the ball. Nothing wrong with her opinion. Honesty is so refreshing in a world gone PC mad. I heard Welker wants $7 million. I’d cut him. There are plenty of guys that can catch footballs and are faster.

My favorite football “oops” moment is still when the Titans 86 year old owner, Bud Adams (well past his sell-by date) celebrated a win in 2009 by doing a lot of middle finger exercises at the end of the game from his suite. Unfortunately, someone got it with an iPhone and it made it onto YouTube quickly. His fine was $250K.

We criticize people who make next to nothing in the everyday workplace and she can’t criticize millionaires who are getting paid for playtime.

Now just a dadgum minute!!! I am a Jets fan who rooted for the Giants, who I often refer to as ‘the Jints.’

As for Mrs. Brady, er…Giselle; if she were assigned to me in a spouse swap reality show, I’d run for the hills. I mean really!!! “Tommy can’t throw and catch the ball at the same time.” His teammates don’t complain about how slow of foot he is, do they Giselle? The point is, Welker and Hernandez got the Pats to the Super Bowl, in grand fashion. That’s what teammates remember during tough games. And I’d be surprised if the Pats don’t work out a deal to keep Welker on the squad; he’s a Jets-killer.

giselle was out of line. she should never have made those comments. maybe not even in private to close friends.

a quarterback (wife or close family member) should never, ever throw teammates under the bus. never.

Right. You can think that all you want and even cry to your dh about it, but you don’t verbalize it to anyone else. It has nothing to do with being “PC.” It’s about having class.
