Agree, but it’s not clear to me how much input the two ladies had in that in terms of camera angles. Those moves look a little different if the camera placement changes.
Funny, I don’t remember anyone here being shocked and offended at Adam Levine’s topless halftime show last year. I just remember it being pretty dull.
If this is what we, as a society, want to see as entertainment, then so be it. The nude bodysuit defense is laughable. They were supposed to look like they had very little on their bodies, and it worked. I found it to be very sexualized, and I didn’t care for it, but I’m not wringing my pearls or whatever the big accusation up-thread was. If others thought it was fantastic, then great!
Back to the halftime show. I have totally changed my mind about what I saw and what it meant. I saw two women dancing very sexually. I did not realize the culture behind it and the meaning of many of the visuals: https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/diversity-inclusion/481164-these-are-all-the-cultural-references-you-missed. “It wasn’t the first time the Puerto Rican actress and singer has advocated for the U.S. territory, which was recently struck by an earthquake. But while some statements were more blatant, others took on more meaning in the context of the current state of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. A choir of children, led by Lopez’s 11-year-old daughter Emme, sang “Let’s Get Loud,” which incorporates elements of “Born in the USA” while sitting in spherical cages — which many immediately connected to the cages migrant children are being held in at the border.”
@Nrdsb4. Yep. But they practice and film these during playback also. Not hearing either entertainer saying anything. Maybe the shock value was on purpose… or not.
It’s funny. It can be said of any art form including masterpiece paintings.
One person’s masterpiece is someone’s else’s junk.
I was at the Chicago Art Institute and looking at an amazing masterpiece painting (fill in your favorite painter here x). Then someone comes by and looks and says "that is kinda a crappy painting … Don’t you agree *… Lol… No I don’t… Lol…
Everyone sees and experiences things differently. No, I am not calling the halftime show a masterpiece… Entertaining and controversial yes. Maybe that’s the point. To get us to talk about the deeper meaning that we saw… Or not…
When I was researching, it was interesting to read how a lot of people were angered by the selection of Adam Levine to perform the halftime show in Atlanta, an epicenter for hip hop.
That is why Jay Z was hired, to prevent these kind of cultural decision blunders. Not, presumably, to bring politics to the game, which was JLo’s intent (confirmed with her now-deleted statement, “Other people can try to build walls, keep us out or put us in cages.”).
Justin Beiber and Drake are from Atlanta. That could of been a strong combo.
Aren’t they both from Canada?
Yes to Bieber. He’s from Stratford, Ontario. (we visit often
)
Both Bieber and Drake are Canadian. Drake has duel citizenship and spent some summers in Memphis with his father.
I should of emphasized this. Yes from Canada but both lived in Atlanta growing up . Drakes recording studio was there for years.

When my daughter was young we passed through Atlanta in his neighborhood. We were driving and I told her we have one hour to find him. My wife and son stayed in the car. We went to a mall with a hand held video recorder and she went up to people asking if they knew where he lived. She said she’s working on a school project. It was sooo much fun. After interviewing people, mall guards and etc no luck. Then we went to one of those Lid hat stores and the lady said “He was just here yesterday with his mom. He comes all the time” my daughter flipped… The expression on her face is priceless. She posted it somewhere under “searching for Justin Beiber”… We didn’t know there were like 10,000 titles just like that… Lol… This was like after his second record…
Back to the half time show…
I’m not a film/camera/entertainment expert by anyone’s standard, but don’t seasoned professionals (JLo and Shakira) know where the camera is??
I enjoyed the halftime show, but there was one crotch shot that made me wince a little. And JLo was looking directly into the camera.
An aside - I’m good friends with a Colombian family. They love to dance and use any party or get together as a reason to hit the floor. However, I have never seen any of them in teeny weeny outfits … and they are physically very attractive. Pretty sure you can be true to your culture with some clothes on.
As far as Adam Levine, I kept thinking while watching him sing last year - “Oh crap, I’m singing at the Superbowl and forgot my shirt!”
Sexy is fine, but some of it seems so gratuitous and over the top. IMO it just gets kinda dumb.
I’m seeing a lot of funny GIF’s, Memes, and pictures about next year’s halftime show! I even posted a comment saying "Pepsi Presents “The Singing Nuns!” with a GIF of the nuns from Sound of Music!
I’m a Shakira fan but one of those crotch shots made be gulp so hard I nearly choked. As for J Lopez, she needs to call it a day.
I didn’t think JLo’s outfits were all that skimpy.
