@MomofWildChild I agree with you. What I don’t agree with is taking it to the level of name calling and shaming.
I really have a problem with women who refer to other women as “skanks”. Otherwise, we are all free to dislike whatever music we want. I don’t choose to listen to opera, but maybe I would appreciate it more if I learned more about it. Saying that it sucked because I don’t happen to enjoy it would just reveal my own ignorance.
The halftime performance was showcasing the skills of two very talented and accomplished women, featuring Latin music and Latin/African dance styles. The costumes were revealing but not obscene and featured the extremely strong and attractive bodies of women whose ages have been traditionally deemed “past their prime.”
As someone who danced when she was younger (but couldn’t have done what J-Lo did on that stage on her very best day), I was in awe of the skills and stamina of the performers.
I liked the Bill Murray Groundhog day commercial…very fitting for super bowl on groundhog day!
@PetraMC exactly! All of these pop singers try to be sexy. It’s not a new thing! Also, in response to complaints about their skimpy outfits…one article mentioned that both women were wearing leggings/tights…so that one legged dress JLO (i think was wearing), was not really one legged…it just had a nude sheer leg…
@natty1988 I figured that the night of - she wasn’t 1/2 naked; it was a flesh colored bodysuit. No way it would have stayed put the the way it did without being a full-body covering.
In a comment thread on Facebook, some people were blaming JLO and Shakira for the too close to the crotch shots. Um, that’s not their fault! Blame the camera man! The camera man/production team are the ones who make the decisions on where to put the camera!
It’s amazing how up in arms some people are getting about the halftime show being “too sexy.” I have co workers with young kids who are acting like it’s the end of the world that their kids saw the halftime show…if there was ever something innapropriate on tv, I just changed the channel. End of story. Didn’t get all up in arms.
I’ve seen people say the Super Bowl is a family event? Is it? I remember D watching the halftime show when she was 7 or so and H had the game on. But, I think that was when they still had Up With People do the halftime show…remember that?
@PetraMC good point!
@NJWrestlingmom Exactly! God, people jump to conclusions so fast. It’s the super bowl of pearl clutching!
Do people even think that these singers could be wearing a nude sheer costume? Nope!

Great minds…
@jym626 HAHA! Yes!
I heard a man describe the halftime show as “crotch cam.” I really think the camera angle accentuated the performance in a bad way. I was watching with my son and my dad and I was a little embarrassed thinking any minute we were going to see their hoohas.
That being said, I have seen women bigger than both of them put together wearing yoga pants and tight tank tops at my local grocery store. Throw on some sequins and you’d have pretty much the same costume except in black. Maybe if JLo’s body suit were a different color, she would not have looked half naked.
Whatever. Wish I looked like them at any age!
The media has pushed the black quarterback narrative for many decades, so it’s really nothing new.
Well on the bright side, maybe plumbing systems weren’t strained at halftime this year if more were watching the show and fewer were flushing the toilet.
Also, the Super Bowl was broadcast on Fox too.
I find the comments on the dance routines interesting to say the least. It’s very common in Latin culture to dress this way for a dance. Go to any dance club that is Latin in Nature. You will also see some of the best dancers anywhere.
I also treat a lot of dancers and some performers in plays /musicals. My middle school /high school competitive dancers would love to be one of the backup dancers one day. Industrial dancers train very hard to have a shot to do this type of work. You tube these performances. Yes, performances… There is literally hours upon hours of very athletic hard work to get this choreography down. Jlo used to do choreography also.
As far as the actually performance. Their fans would expect nothing less. Heh, if your 43 and 50 and got it… Well…
Revealing outfits are part of the staging. I honestly didn’t think it was that bad. The crotch and butt shots we unneeded and that goes on the director. Also the stars themselves knew what they were doing here. This would of been filmed in rehearsal and played back. They could of had some artistic control if they wanted it. But they are putting on a show. This would most likely kill it in Vegas.
That’s my 2 cents.
Greatly enjoyed being here in KC to experience all the cheering, honking, sirens, fireworks, etc. at the end of the game. ( I must admit I almost lost hope there early in the 4th quarter…)
Schools are closed for the victory parade tomorrow.
Did not like the halftime show. Way too pornified/crotch-shotty for my taste. Tbh I’d much rather see a marching band.
My favorite commercial was Cheetos Popcorn “Can’t Touch This.” H and I both cried at the Google one.
I didn’t care much for the performance. But I completely agree with you on this one.
I have this image of Church Lady on SNL.
Well, @Nrdsb4 , maybe Satan was in the house. That might explain all the gyrating!
Soooo back to the original reason I made this thread: I’ve seen the Boston “cah pahrk” commercials a few times in the last few days and I hate it more every single time.
I feel the same way about that tax ad.
