Hey guys, a lot of schools give you the option to submit a supplementary art portfolio (ie. Princeton). I do woodworking as a hobby and I also do some sculpting with clay, but these are just hobbies. I am applying to Princeton’s mechanical engineering and aerospace program. Do you think it is worth submitting pictures of my work or just leave the application as is?
Really hard to know what ‘just hobbies’ means. I know people whose ‘hobby’ work is something they spend hours on, that is a big part of them, and the quality of the work is superb. Other people bash around in the wood shed making rickety whatnot, and whilst they are happy doing it, even their loved ones find a dark corner to put the ‘treasure’ in.
If your work is something that you put a lot of time into and you are proud of your work (even if you can always see a little something that could be ‘more perfect’!), and you can get it photographed well, then I say go for it. It’s shows another side of you.
