Surely we’re not the only ones at Dancewave this weekend!

@threegirlpileup we attended the dancer for a day @temple last year when my daughter was a junior. She participated in ballet & modern classes. The parents were not able to observe. She did not feel like temple would be a good match for her based on level of technique. I’ve tried to encourage her to do another BFA for a day this year, but unfortunately she’s not interested.

@“Ksmama**” thanks for your reply. I wrote a lengthy post under the Temple dance thread, but bottom line we had a similar feeling that the program is not a great fit for someone looking for rigorous technical training. Too bad, because in so many ways it looked like a great fit on paper.

Your daughters all appear to be accomplished and searching for solid technical programs. Is there any reason no one has considered the USF dance program? My daughter was accepted academically, but she still needs to audition via video or in person and I am wondering if it would be worth the trip. Is the program technical enough? It is one of the programs that consistently comes up on “top” dance lists

@Massmom72 What style of dance is your dancer looking for? Florida State is a top ranked dance school for a BFA and also has a 4+1 option for a masters. My understanding is that USF is a BA program and auditions are to be sure there actually has been training and for placement purposes. They definitely have some amazing choreographers come in to do works with them and there are several dancers we know that are amazing that are in the program. They all had the Bright Futures, and prepaid FL tuition, and also wanted to double major which probably influenced that decision. They also all had conservatory ballet training for 6+ years so technique was not the biggest motivating factor. Also they have alumni in Alvin Ailey, Chicago based companies, other contemporary companies, directors, teachers, etc.

Any time it is a BA program then there are probably 20-30 less credit hours of dance required which means at least one less class per semester of training. (For double majoring, the BA is a great option.)

The people we know who go to the school love it and my nephew got his BS there and loved it as well. It is a beautiful campus.

@Massmom72 Both USF (which does have a BFA program as well as a BA program) and FSU were on my dd’s longer list of places to apply. They didn’t make the final cut when it came down to getting the list down to around 10 schools, but it was about distance and being OOS (high $$) more than anything else.

Thank you @threegirlpileup and @NavigatingMom

she just got a $9000 academic award from USF bringing tuition, room and board down to 26000. Best deal she has going yet…everything is so expensive in the northeast

Did anyone else hear from East Carolina yesterday? After Dancewave we received an email from them requesting that we send in their normal required audition materials and attend an audition. DD sent everything in and yesterday received an acceptance email.

We will still attend the February audition because we have only visited the school itself and everything we know about the program is only from what we have read online and from talking to them briefly at Dancewave.

Okay this is crazy…we got an email TODAY from LIU Post offering a small scholarship and plugging the dance program. She did not give them a resume at Dancewave or show interest in any way. She also keeps getting phone calls from AMDA, where she never showed any interest. Are programs really still trying to get additional students to apply??

@threegirlpileup be prepared… my daughter is finishing up her freshman year BFA and is STILL getting emails from AMDA? The one she got today said she has two more days to apply as a VIP.

hahahahaha!!
The AMDA one is especially weird because for a list of reasons it’s not a school she would every apply to.

So it’s good to see that my DS isn’t the only one getting constant emails from AMDA. So far he’s got offers for full paid tuition from UCLA and UCI, his top choices. So it comes down to what the programs have to offer. UCI is much more technical training (BFA) while UCLA is BA. We’ll see what he finally decides. @gmfalv Has your DD decided yet!?

@threegirlpileup we got the same
email from LIU Post today. I assume that schools are scrambling a bit with everything so uncertain right now. I read a USA Today article this morning about how some students will be staying closer to home or taking a gap year that they hadn’t originally planned on.

@elmom25 has your dd made a decision yet? Ball State?

@threegirlpileup, yes she has! I really thought it was going to be Ball State but in the end she decided on Troy University in Troy, AL. We were supposed to make one last trip to Ball State in March that couldn’t happen, so I don’t know if that swayed her decision since she had been to Troy several times. She is very happy with her decision, though, and is excited for Fall!

@elmom25 ahh yes was that you that posted on the FB page?

And please add to the final decisions posts! I know it will help future families!
