All my post-grad jobs were through connections. Every single one of them. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t qualified, and no, it wasn’t nepotism. These were connections I made in college and in the work place. I was a humanities major so could not rely on regular job listings the way, say, business or engineering majors could. I ended up in a competitive field and in addition to your resume/portfolio, connections were how everyone found jobs.
