Im an 8th grader in a 5th-9th grade school thinking of applying to exeter for 10th. the problem is that i was suspended in 7th and only had A/B grades in 6th thru 7th, rather than just As, which i have this year.
My stats this year were:

I plan to do some community service like habitat 4 humanity and volunteering at the senior center next year. so if i keep my grades up next year, does it matter too much that i was suspended?

a kid kept calling me gay to cover up his own sexuality, so i called him fat and he pounced on me and the teachers saw us both on the ground and assumed we were both fighting and i actually didnt punch him or anything which he admitted AFTER the suspension, but it was already on my record because i had done the time so i was screwed. that was a huge run on sentence.

well i am so yay. the school just refused to take it off my record. however the principal wrote a letter to a few of the schools i applied to this year and told them it was pretty minor. but even so, how will prep schools look at that? do they care that much about stuff that happened 3 years ago at a different school (i was in public school that year, switched to private, and am goin to a new school this year)?

I’s say your best chance into Exeter is if you’re a good runner. Your SSAT is about average or a little below, your grades are below average and the swuspension won’t help. But like colleges, they do make exceptions for top athletes.

91st percentile is not average. 50% is. 91st percentile is exeters average ssat. but ya im a decent runner. and will it help if i take the AP psychology exam next year?

You’re basically looking at being excluded from any secondary school of note. They don’t want to host kids who can’t control their own actions, and rightly so. You never know though.

I agree with Dmatthew. Unfortunately there are many other kids with the same stats that did not get suspended. I think your chances depend on your running and maybe a letter?

i had some really bad (read: REALLY) disciplinary things at my first prep school and i still got accepted to a wicked good (comparable to exeter) private school a week before school started (i.e. mid august). I had slightly better test scores (96%ile) and slightly less ECs (no varsity sports), and i did CTY(it’s a huge help). I think you definately have a shot

91% SSAT was Exeter’s average, I hearde all the top schools went up again this byear and % acceptaqnce was down. Keep in mind that like at top co0lleges, the average is brought down by hooked candidates: URMs, athletes, legacies, kids of the rich and famous etc. So if you’re not in that crowd, chances are your SSAT is above the school’s average. And entering in 10th is more competitive than 9th. So f0ocus on your sport, great recs and essays. Aslo apply to more than just Exeter. There are a half dozen schools equally gd or better: Andver, SPS, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Milton…and many a tad lower ranked that are gtreat too: St. Andrews, Governor Dummer, Hill, Taft,
Choate and the list goes on.
