Susquehanna Class of 2030 Official Thread

This is the official discussion thread for Susquehanna Class of 2030 applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

I didn’t see a thread for this, but anyone else’s student apply EA/ED to Susquehanna? My S just heard back mid-week last week and got accepted with a very generous scholarship/grant. We were pleasantly surprised as we didn’t expect to hear back until December. Today, we got an email inviting us to an admitted students’ day in 2 weeks. Anyone else hear back?

Sorry - just seeing this thread now. Yes, D26 heard back 11/4. My understanding is that pretty much everyone (or everyone!) gets at least a $40K scholarship. It’s kind of silly. Books your tuition to the point that makes you looks somehow exclusive and then give everyone a 50% off coupon.

It still ends up being one of her more expensive options and became a relatively easy scratch off the list. We had not previously visited.

This is our thrid time going through this process with our youngest. We have probably toured over 30 schools and at least a dozen LACs. Susquehanna really was our biggest surprise, a hidden gem. It’s a beautiful, well-maintained, spacious campus. We felt an inclusive, non-cliquey vibe from the student body. I agree it’s counterintuitive how they approach tuition, but they are very upfront about that in the info session. Also seems very well funded in terms of the buildings and facilities, especially for a smaller school. Academically, Communications and Business are their standout programs. Certainly, I understand crossing it off as an expensive option, but they do emphasize making it as affordable as possible for everyone. So if you were to reconsider, there could likely be more funding if you reached back out to them.

Thanks for the reply! Our second time going through this - and though we’ve probably not visited quite as many as you have - it’s been a lot. Not suggesting that Susquehanna is the only one that plays that kind of tuition “game” - just IMO it’s a silly game to play and simply marketing.

The part of that financial model that falls down from the consumer standpoint is that the “generous merit” does not increase over time yet the gross cost does. So when comparing year 1 costs to another program that last a lower gross cost and lower merit can be roughly equivalent, if you do a 4 year estimate it can show very differently.

I have no doubt it has all the positive attributes you ascribe to it. It gets some great reviews.
