Hoping someone has the answer to this. S25 applied to a first-choice major (Maxwell) and a second-choice major (CAS). His letter is a waitlist for his first choice with zero mention of his second choice. Is that coming later, or is that the end of his journey and his second choice is not even considered?

She was accepted. After all of the disappointments this was a good ā€œwin.ā€ She’s been a queen of the waitlists. Not sure if she’ll attend but this one feels good.

Bit of a shock, this is probably the WL I care most about now

This is true that it can take some time to settle in at any school, but it is harder to find students that rave about SU. My daughters been accepted to SU Architecture and knows the program is excellent but most of what she sees about the culture/vibe of the school is somewhat negative. Yes - she can see the kids rally around sports, which is a plus for her, and she would want to go rush and that seems like a plus, but a lot of what she sees on social media are kids complaining about how hard it is or how miserable they are - whether due to their workload, professor, rigor or the weather. I am searching high and low to find genuine pockets of kids that are thriving there. I’ll admit part of the problem is that the other schools on her list are places like VTech, Auburn (repeatedly rated Happiest Campus in the US - and totally lives up to that when you visit), UTK - where the kids are super social, warm, helpful in an obvious way.
I’m not writing this to be critical - I’m hoping someone can point me to some sources to find these same kind of kids at SU for her to talk to or see - aside from VTech (waitlisted unfortunately) which is also excellent, it’s the best program for her to go to and she even received scholarship money bc of her portfolio submission.

I’ve been messaging with friends whose kids go there- all of them are extremely happy. I probably know 5 there now and a few recent graduates (last five years). When we visited I thought the kids looked extremely happy- my takeaway was a school with smart kids who still have fun. FWIW I rarely see IG reels or TikToks of kids saying how much they love their schools - it’s always complainers. That doesn’t mean kids aren’t happy- they have no reason to post. :woman_shrugging:

Leadership scholars is great. They all take a class together first semester where they are required to attend different events on campus and then they put on their own event. It’s intended to connect them and help them find their niche in campus. The kids are all super involved and it’s a good cohort. And they get some perks like luncheons and are pretty well respected on campus.

My daughter LOVES it there and is thriving. Weather is tough, yes, this year was cold and snowy but the positives way outweigh the negatives. Her friends are all super involved, tons of clubs and opportunities. Mine is in a sorority, is an ambassador, does charity through Ottothon, goes to games, is a TA (as a freshman) and the dorm social life has been great

It’s a nice event. The deans give a speech and they come around and meet each student. They put each kids name on the scoreboard in the dome which the kids love.

Both of my kids (current students at Syracuse) had Merit with the acceptance

I have two children (boy and girl) both attending Syracuse and love it. I agree with others that have posted—most kids who post things are negative in general. Kids involved in clubs, Greek life Sorority/Frat (there are social, service and business/major type Greek orgs as well) and involved in religious org/charity service. Study abroad program VERY popular. Every school has kids that love it and those who don’t. Kids have 4 friends at VTech, 2 love it; 1 says ā€œit’s fineā€ and one is ā€œtoleratingā€ it. 100% depends on your child and their experience.

Accepted to Architecture, with merit included in letter. My understanding is that it typically comes with acceptance letter.

Really appreciate this real feedback!! Eager to pass it along to my daughter. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

Does anyone know if the Leadership Scholarship is tied to your major/school? Son received the Education Leadership award with an intended major of Inclusive Childhood Education. If he changes his major (which we know lots of students do), does he lose the award? I know he needs to just reach out an ask the school but I thought I would start here first.

His stats:
3.6 Unweighted (school doesn’t weight grades)
7 AP
1460 superscore submitted
Decent ECs but several which aligned with his major
Well researched supplemental essays that spoke about Syracuse specific programs/research/professors.
Had informal interview with Asst Dir of Admissions (he was the only student who showed up for the information session after the campus tour).

Wondering the same. D25 received a 1/2 tuition Leadership scholarship through Falk. I would think that because the awards are through specific colleges they may be college specific and not transfer if the student switches a major to one in a different college.

Does anyone know how many leadership scholarships are given out?

I was trying to find these stats. A few years ago it looked like 25 per college with the hope of expanding to 50 students per academic college. I haven’t been able to find any published stats on how many currently.

D25 is excited and grateful for her leadership award but also received merit at Pitt and with in-state rate there, it will still be approx 20K cheaper per year for her than Syracuse so she will likely decline admission and her award at Syracuse but we’re encouraging her to look into all of the programs and offerings to fairly compare.

And what’s not clear in many of these statistics is that because these awards are renewable does that mean ~6 get awarded to each ā€œnewā€ freshman class so that each college has ~25 actively enrolled students with the award or is it 25/freshman class. I suspect the former.

similar for my daugher. waitlisted for Newhouse (advertising) and offered the Fall 2025 Global Semester Abroad. She has other nice offers, but was def sad about this one.
