This is the official discussion thread for Syracuse Class of 2030 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Good luck to all! My son is in his third year there.
Just figured I’d share our application journey because it sure felt strange…
I have visited Syracuse twice (once with each of my two oldest kids). Loved it both times. As someone who has seen A LOT of college admissions presentations in person (30+) I will say that Syracuse does an amazing job at this. They just seem to have a very professsional presentation and, for my younger child who is interested in art, they actually prepared a sample 4 year plan of study and gave it to her when we visited. Really sharp.
My older child applied and seriously considered it. Throughout her application process we were inundated with email and real mail promoting Syracuse. Totally normal for most colleges, I think.
Fast forward to child 2. After a very positive in person campus visit, she went through the steps to apply but we never heard from them again. My child scheduled an art portfolio review and the AO - who she previously met with in person - stood her up. She rescheduled and they showed up this time and went through the motions but seemed totally disinterested in her or her work. She still planned to apply and filled out common app (but never submitted) and sent transcript and test scores. Never once received any follow up emails or mailings ebcouraging her to apply. A couple of months ago She reached out to Admissions to ask a question and they never replied. In the meantime she started receiving acceptances and scholarships from other schools.
Eventually she decided to just not apply to Syracuse. I mean her sister received over 40 emails encouraging her to apply and tons of mailings as well. Child 2 never heard a peep despite showing tons of interest (and being a competitive, full-pay potential applicant).
All of a sudden a couple of weeks ago I (parent) received an email from them encouraging her to apply and mentioning lots of new scholarship money. But she had already decided against it. And today…a day after RD deadline…they reached out to me again saying they would still like her to apply and have doubled their merit scholarips etc etc.
Too late…she’s already deciding from among her other choices and is not at all inclined to write another essay at this point.
So crazy that they went total radio silence on us for the past 6 months. Every other school we’ve ever visited and dozens more that we never visited have been self-promoting but no love from ‘Cuse.
Oh well. She has other good choices. But just so strange to have two such different experiences with applying to the same school two years apart.
Best wishes to all future oranges! And….apparently it’s not too late to apply for anyone who might still want to! ![]()
