Unfortunately my D didn’t get into honors, so now she is in the housing hunt. Is there a benefit to depositing early, or is it random? And if you request a split double are you guaranteed one? D is trying to nail down a roommate on Instagram but it’s slow going. She’s considering an LLC, mainly to guarantee a split double. Any feedback?
Hi @OregonMom2024! My D is finishing up freshman year at Syr! I seem to remember housing choice was random and no benefit for depositing early or being able to make choices earlier. She and her roommate (found/‘vetted’ on Instagram) decided to do a LLC in order to attempt to secure the dorm they wanted. They got into the LLC and the dorm; they had requested an open double but got a split double. They ended up really liking the split double feature and were reasonably happy with their dorm. Feel free to ask me more questions. And check out the Freshman facebook group which is very active.

My daughter is in Honors so she was in Sadler, but housing, if you don’t do an LLC, is random. You are assigned a dorm (and a roommate if you don’t find one beforehand). From what I know, if you request a certain room, they do their best to accommodate requests, but its not guaranteed. I believe about 1/2 of the dorm rooms are split doubles.
My daughter was in a large split double. It was awesome for the privacy aspect. But she said it was definitely not as easy to hang out with friends. They spent most of their “hang out” and “pre-party” time in open doubles.
@Christyski is that a Facebook group for students? I’m on the Class of 2028 parents group. I thought 18 year olds were not on Facebook so I didn’t look for a student group 
haha yes, Facebook group for parents! Sounds like you’re on the one for new freshman parents. There’s another parents one overall that includes all grade levels so then you hear & ask questions from parents of older students which is helpful.
